From the family-farm venue to the DIY wedding cake, Laura Rowe (28) and Gary Rowe’s (28) pink and white shabby chic wedding was filled with personal details. Laura Dee Photography documented the day, which started with an outdoor ceremony and ended in a tented reception at Laura’s parents' farm: Second Chance Farm in Broad Brook, Connecticut. “I wanted a shabby chic/romantic theme, but I also wanted to tie in the farm,” Laura says. "So there were some rustic touches." The team at Broad Brook Gardens helped Laura and Gary fill their wedding with some of her favorite flowers, hydrangeas and peonies. Low and tall arrangements of white hydrangeas were set atop wooden barrels at the front of the ceremony space as low arrangements of the same flower lined the aisle. The couple’s florist also designed low white rose, peony and hydrangea centerpieces within mason jars and silver breakaway vases for each white linen-covered table at the reception. Another standout detail was the couple’s wedding cake. Baked by Laura’s best friend and bridesmaid, the cake fit the couple’s pink and white color scheme and but added a whimsical touch to their rustic setting. “It turned out more beautiful than I imagined,” Laura says. Pink and white ruffles popped from two layers of the three-tier confection as white peonies, white hydrangeas and pink lavender were used as accents. For future couples, Laura shares a tip: “Enjoy the planning process. It's supposed to be fun, not stressful. Also, allow your partner to help and have input.”

Broad Brook Gardens, the couple’s florist, added to their shabby chic theme with a few touches of Laura’s favorite flowers, hydrangeas and peonies. Each mug was filled with white hydrangeas, pink roses, dusty miller and stock flowers. More low arrangements were placed throughout the reception. Silver breakaway vases and clear-glass mason jars were filled with white roses and white peonies.
Broad Brook Gardens added a romantic touch to Laura’s wedding day look with a full bouquet of white and blush florals. Wrapped with white ribbon, the couple’s florist designed an arrangement of white roses, pink hydrangea, pink lavender, white peonies and dusty miller. “My favorite flowers are hydrangeas and peonies, so I wanted the majority of my arrangements to include them,” Laura says.
With the help of Laura and Gary’s florist, Broad Brook Gardens, low arrangements of white hydrangeas in clear-glass cylinder vases lined the ceremony aisle and topped two rustic wooden barrel accents. “I wanted a shabby chic/romantic theme, but I also wanted to tie in the farm. So, there were some rustic touches,” Laura says.
The team at The White Dress by the shore in Clinton, Connecticut, helped Laura find just the right dress for her wedding day. The all-lace white mermaid dress by Augusta Jones added a romantic touch. “I absolutely fell in love with it the first time I put it on,” Laura says. “I had that moment where I knew instantly it was the one.”

With a white hydrangea bouquet arranged by Broad Brook Gardens in their hands, each of Laura’s four bridesmaids wore a different-style dress in similar shades of pink or blush. They completed the cocktail-length look with either updo or down curled hairstyles and simple jewelry. “I love the look of mismatched dresses all in the same shade,” Laura says. “They all ended up complementing each other perfectly.”
Adding the couple’s pink wedding color into her outfit, Laura wore pink Badgley Mischka wedding shoes with fun floral accents on its T-strap. It also complemented the bride’s bouquet. Designed by Broad Brook Gardens, Laura carried white peonies, pink hydrangeas, white roses, dusty miller and pink lavender in her arrangement.
Playing off their shabby chic theme, Laura and Gary gave each guest a clear mason jar for the night with a neutral or pink-striped straw. Each was placed along an exposed wood family-style table with a classic white lace runner or a white linen-covered round table. The latter was accented with mason jars filled with white roses and peonies or silver breakaway vases with the same florals.

Broad Brook Gardens designed lush low centerpieces for each white linen-covered round table. Both silver breakaway vases and clear mason jars were filled with white roses, white peonies, dusty millers and white hydrangeas. Adding to the couple’s shabby chic decor, each table was met with a wooden table number.
Laura's best friend (and bridesmaid) baked the couple's three-tier wedding cake. At the request of the bride, blush and white ruffles accented the bottom and base tier for an eye-catching look. The center tier was decorated with lines upon lines of a dotted, piped design, For an added touch, white hydrangeas, white peonies and pink lavender were used as accents. “It turned out more beautiful than I imagined,” Laura says.
