No one would’ve guessed Kimberly Bernardo (29 and a pediatric transplant nurse) and Brian Deeth’s (28 and owner of Jersey Mike's Subs) stunning contemporary hotel venue was the old Charles Street Jail. “We were definitely set on getting married in our favorite city and the city where we met and fell in love,” Kim says. “We were familiar with The Liberty Hotel, the old Charles Street Jail, which was transformed into a gorgeous contemporary boutique hotel in 2007. When we went to visit it as a possible wedding venue, it was love at first site. It was impeccably beautiful inside and out, as well as unique in its decor, since it retains many elements from the original jail. We loved the sophistication, modern vibe and decor, and loved that it was not your typical hotel venue.” Inspired by the history of the location, they incorporated antique keys throughout the details, such as printed on the stationery and tied to the programs. Kim and Brian used a neutral blush, ivory and champagne color palette to contrast with the metallic tones of the venue, which created a modern vibe. Nicole Pirani from Blooms Of Hope created gorgeous floral arrangements, which added a little romance to the day, and Meghann Gregory Photography captured all the details. One of the best parts was the local dessert. Instead of having a traditional wedding cake, the couple served mini Boston creme pies. As if that wasn’t sweet enough, guests went home with individually boxed, custom-decorated Georgetown cupcake favors for a little Washington, DC, flair.

Kim and Brian decided to get married at The Liberty Hotel in Boston, which used to be the old Charles Street Jail. Wanting to incorporate the venue’s history into their wedding, they used an antique key motive throughout the wedding. They started the design on the invitations, which were custom-designed letterpress.

The groom wore an oversized white calla lily and carnation for his boutonniere. The stems were wrapped with black satin ribbon for a classic look. He wore a formal black-and-white tuxedo with a black bow tie to match the elegant wedding aura.
Kim's engagement ring, designed at Barmakian Jewelers in Nashua, New Hampshire, is a three-stone diamond ring on a bead-set diamond band. The two round-cut side stones were given to Brian by Kim's mother to use for her engagement ring. They were from Kim's mother's engagement ring from Kim's father, who passed away a few years prior. This made the proposal and the ring that much more emotional and special.
Kim wore a strapless ivory French Alencon lace Liancarlo mermaid wedding dress. Wanting to add a little sparkle to her look, she added a hand-beaded crystal belt from Amsale. She also wore a cathedral-length veil in her updo, which she borrowed from her older sister.
The bridesmaids wore gold silk dupioni dresses from Lynn Lugo collection in whatever style they wanted. They completed their look with black leather pumps to complement the groomsmen's look. The adorable flower girl wore a little white dress with a gold headband and black shoes to match the bridesmaids.
Wanting to incorporate the history of their venue (Boston jail-turned-hotel), the couple included an antique key motif on all the stationery. The escort cards were heat-embossed with the gold heat design, and the names were completed with black calligraphy.
An Elegant, Classic Reception in Boston
There were three versions of centerpieces at the gorgeous reception at The Liberty Hotel in Boston. The couple wanted the decorations to add variety and depth to the room. One version included pink, ivory and green hydrangeas and roses in varying height glass vases.

The wedding favors were individually boxed, custom-decorated cupcakes. They were topped with a fondant letter “D” in honor of their new last name. The couple loved bringing a little Washington, DC, to their wedding day.
