A Refined, Rustic Wedding at Kunde Family Winery in Kenwood, California

After meeting at Yale Medical School and striking up a friendship that blossomed into romance, Emily Miller (31 and a nurse) wed Vishal Gupta (30 and an emergency room doctor) in a sunny outdoor ceremony within the centuries-old stone ruins of the Dunfillan Winery at Kunde Family Winery in Sonoma Valley, California. “Our colors were white, khaki and green,” Emily says. “I love the softness of these neutrals and wanted the scenery at the gorgeous outdoor location to be complemented with a romantic, understated palette.” After the ceremony, the 120 guests lounged on vintage sofas and sipped on Kunde wine before finding their table numbers on boards pinned with carefully calligraphed tree leaves. The earthy theme took root again at the reception, where round and rectangular farm tables were arranged under market lights; each was set with silver votive candleholders and pewter flower vases filled with garden roses, peonies, scabiosa pods, balsa wood flowers, green hydrangeas and verdant eucalyptus. Fragrant, deep green bay leaf garlands were laid alongside lace runners on the center of the longer tables. After Emily and Vishal opened the dance floor with a romantic, choreographed dance to “The Best Is Yet to Come,” and the 17-piece band kicked the party into high gear. Hiring the large band, Emily says, was “the best decision we made.” A DJ helped emcee the night and played music during the band's breaks. For dessert, Emily and Vishal cut into an unfrosted naked carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, while a dessert bar arranged on vintage kitchen hutches near the dining area served mini blackberry pies and salted caramel brownies. “We make a good team,” says Emily, who advises couples to “be kind to your relationship. Each individual needs to remain true to their needs and wants while respecting their partner's differences. Always be honest.” We can all toast to that. —Carolyn Meers
