Katie (34 and a pediatrician) and Scott (34 and an engineer) met on a blind date by Katie's friend (also Scott's first cousin). Although they talked once on the phone before they met, Katie and Scott hardly knew anything about each other. They went on their first date to dinner and drinks, where Katie says, "Per Scott, he skipped home from my house after." They had a second date at a hot yoga class and a third (three in one week!) at a movie. After dating for a little while, Scott proposed the day after Christmas (Katie's favorite holiday) after teasing her with a vacuum for a Christmas present. "He had a whole plan to hide a pickle in our Christmas tree (an old German tradition), but instead I went up to bed. He ended up proposing in our bedroom in his boxers!" Katie says. They got married in Scott's hometown of Rochester, Michigan at the Royal Park Hotel an elegant, modern venue with dual indoor and outdoor space. Their late September wedding was unusually warm and sunny, perfect for a tented ceremony. A big fan of sparkle, Katie wanted everything, from the table linens to her custom beaded wedding dress, to have a pop of glitter or crystal. Full of personal touches, the reception included hand-calligraphed thank you notes to the guests, live singing and piano performances by two close friends, a flash mob orchestrated by their families, and a 3D model of Scott's car as a surprise groom's cake. Most significantly, Katie and Scott incorporated their dog into the wedding day with a special tuxedo bib collar, a customized cake topper, and even doggy bag wedding favors for guests to take home to their special furry friends. "The celebration was in honor of us, but the party was for everyone else!" Katie explains.

The bridesmaids wore dark gray spaghetti strap dresses so that their bright pink bouquets would have a neutral background for contrast. Since her sister was four months pregnant at the time, she wanted to make sure she found a dress that all of her bridesmaids would feel comfortable in.
When Katie began planning her wedding, she found a picture of her dream bouquet of pink and ivory roses with soft baby's breath in an issue of the Michigan publication of The Knot. Little did she know, the bouquet was designed by the same florist she hired for her own wedding!
Scott had his tuxedo shirt embroidered with the wedding date for a special wedding keepsake. He accented the shirt with a unique pair of airplane-shaped cufflinks.
Katie wore a strapless, lace, mermaid-fit dress by Paloma Bianca and paired it with a cathedral-length veil. She had the plain bust custom-beaded to match the sparkly theme of her wedding.
The groom wore a classic black tuxedo that he accessorized with a blush boutonniere and a black bow tie for the ceremony. For the reception, he changed into a whimsical pink and gray striped bow tie to match the color palette.

The all-pink wedding decor included pale pink curtains and glittery pink table linens and place settings. Tall, ethereal centerpieces featured an assortment of pink and ivory roses and orchids for contrasting textures.

Katie and Scott had custom-made thank you nots placed at each of the table settings with hand-calligraphed personalization to address each guest individually. They also gave their guests favors of local cider donuts to take home with them--along with doggy bags to take home to their furry friends.
At the last minute, Katie switched cake vendors without Scott knowing it so that she could surprise him with a custom-made groom's cake made to look like his car, "the other love of his life," she says. This also meant changing the wedding cake design, so when Scott saw it, he panicked thinking Katie would freak out that it was different. "Little did he know that there was a huge surprise waiting for him!" she says.

At the reception, many friends and family members helped to contribute to the entertainment. Two of their close friends sang and played piano, Katie's sister gave a speech with a slideshow, and the couple's creative family even orchestrated a surprise flash mob!
