After Madelyn Dickson (18 and a scriptionist) and Ryan Greenwood (21 and a medical laboratory technician) got engaged, the pair agreed to put wedding planning on hold to focus on buying a house and building a future together. But when they entered—and actually won—a wedding giveaway, tying the knot moved to the top of their to-do list. With the help of Pretty Lovely Events, Madelyn and Ryan pulled off an unforgettable Valentine’s Day soiree—all in one month—with a palette of rich red, pink and purple hues and a romantic, bohemian vibe. “We love traveling and are all about adventuring, so we wanted to do something a little nontraditional,” Madelyn says.

Riverwood Barn and Amphitheater in Durant, Oklahoma, hosted the affair, providing the fun-loving duo with the ultimate rustic-chic setting for their free-spirited fete. The day unfolded with an outdoor ceremony, where Madelyn and Ryan exchanged vows before a vibrant dream-catcher-inspired backdrop. The couple expressed their commitment to each other in their own words and performed a sand ceremony to symbolize their new life together and the joining of their two families. The newlyweds then gathered their families and friends in the Riverwood Barn for dinner and a full-on dance party. “Stephanie at Pretty Lovely Events took my theme and ran with it,” Madelyn says. “I couldn’t tell you one thing that I would have changed. Honestly, the location and venue themselves were enough to make any girl’s dream wedding without all the extras, but Stephanie went above and beyond all that I could have asked for.”

Votive candles and shimmering chandeliers filled the barn with warm, ambient light, while swaths of dramatic red and gold fabric added an element of drama and romance to the room. To achieve the couple’s bohemian vision, details like colored glassware, antler and feather centerpieces, wildflowers and a laid-back lounge complete with colorful throws and cozy rugs were woven throughout the decor. The Iron Gate Cafe tempted guests' taste buds with mouthwatering hors d’oeuvres and a delicious sit-down dinner, which was followed by a showstopping three-tier cake complete with fresh purple flowers and glitzy gold fondant. After dinner, Madelyn and Ryan kicked the festivities into high gear, ushering their families and friends out onto the dance floor, where they rocked out late into the night. “We danced to ‘Thinking Out Loud’ by Ed Sheeran for our first dance, and then all our family and friends joined in toward the end,” Madelyn says. “We had an awesome DJ who kept everyone dancing throughout the night!” —Libby MacCarthy

Madelyn and Ryan’s invitations perfectly captured their vision, giving guests a taste of the festivities to come. The quaint card stock invites featured hand-drawn floral and feather details that were carried throughout the decor, creating a sense of cohesion from start to finish.
Madelyn nailed her bridal look, striking the perfect balance of timeless elegance and modern romance with a satin mermaid-style gown with a scoop neck and bow-accented low-cut back. For a decidedly bohemian feel, she accessorized with a delicate flower crown and layered necklaces.
For her bridesmaids, Madelyn had each girl choose her own dress to create a mismatched effect that would complement the wedding’s bohemian theme. The women donned flowing, peasant dresses for the affair in varying shades of purple, pink red and gold, rounding out their ensembles with romantic waves and dainty flower crowns.
While Madelyn’s dress read modern romance, the subtler details helped her achieve the bohemian flair she was after. Madelyn opted for a loose, romantic updo for her walk down the aisle, which she adorned with a delicate flower crown. For her makeup she wore a smoky eye and dramatic red lipstick for a look that was both glamorous and timeless.
When it came to choosing their wedding party’s attire, Madelyn and Ryan knew traditional tuxes and suits weren’t going to cut it. “We wanted our wedding to be completely different from anything else we had ever seen,” Madelyn says. For Ryan’s groomsmen, they opted for a casually cool look, dressing the guys in khaki trousers, crisp, white button-down shirts, bow ties, lavender suspenders and brown dress shoes.
While the couple’s vision truly came to life at the reception, Pretty Lovely Events ensured the ceremony was packed with panache and personality as well. A colorful ribbon backdrop decorated with gold dream catchers and a lush green garland provided a striking focal point for the ceremony, while details like textured throw rugs brought an element of coziness to the outdoor space.
Before a backdrop of bright, beautiful ribbons, Madelyn and Ryan exchanged vows they’d written themselves, expressing their commitment to each other in words that felt true to their relationship. Elements like a short sermon and prayers gave the proceedings a slightly traditional feel, while a sand ceremony, which the couple used to close the ceremony, offered the couple a way to put their own twist on tradition.
After the ceremony, Madelyn and Ryan’s families and friends kicked back and relaxed in their cozy bohemian lounge, which featured an eclectic-chic mix of tufted couches, ottomans, rugs, colorful pillows and vintage accents. A photo booth was on hand for guests to enjoy, and a bonfire kept everyone warm while the newlyweds took formal photos.
For the reception, Pretty Lovely Events took Madelyn’s vision for a romantic, bohemian soiree to the next level, filling the rustic Riverwood Barn and Amphitheater in Durant, Oklahoma, with a palette of rich red, pink and purple and original details that provided endless visual intrigue and a one-of-a-kind aesthetic. Tables were draped in swaths of textured red and gold fabric and dotted with colored glassware, bud vases bearing bright pink blooms and quirky elements like cow skulls and antlers that knocked the day’s theme out of the park.
The centerpieces were a bona fide bohemian dream. Gold-dipped vintage bottles filled with colorful feathers and dried flowers were displayed atop bejeweled pedestals and styled alongside succulents and antlers, giving each table a subtle free-spirited feel. “We love traveling and are all about adventuring, so we wanted to do something a little nontraditional,” Madelyn says.
At the end of the night, after the last song had been played, Madelyn and Ryan’s family and friends gathered outside to send them off through a tunnel of brightly lit sparklers—the perfect end to a laid-back bohemian fete.
Dinner finished on a high note with Madelyn and Ryan serving not one but two decadent cakes by Sherlyn Boyd Cakes. The first was a three-tier ivory stunner with a glitzy gold middle layer, bunches of fresh purple flowers and a fondant "G" for the couple’s last name. Brenda Brashier Cakes provided the second confection, tempting guests' taste buds with a tiered naked cake with fresh fruit and decadent frosting.
