A Romantic DIY Wedding at Corks & Cleaver Bistro in Gulfport, Mississippi

Christine Hang Nguyen (29 and a medical technologist) and Loi Duy Nguyen (34 and a manager at MLJ Liquor) brought their rustic DIY wedding to life with lavish greenery and ambient lighting, along with a neutral color scheme of creams, blush and gray. “I have always loved the rustic theme,” Christine says. “So I wanted to stick to that kind of style. I like the simplicity and Southern appeal.” After dining at the delicious Mississippi eatery Corks & Cleaver Bistro in Gulfport, Mississippi, one evening, the couple discovered that the restaurant had an event space. “When I walked into the building, I knew I wanted to have my wedding here,” she says. The couple said “I do” on the venue’s ivy-covered terrace, which they spruced up with bistro lights, a chandelier and white picnic chairs. Inside, for the reception, long banquet tables were clad in crisp white linens and topped with gold chargers, gray napkins and lush eucalyptus garlands. While a majority of the wedding decor was pulled off by the couple, they hired a florist to deck out the dining room in luxurious foliage, from the table garlands to the chandeliers draped in leaves. The dinner reception wowed guests with a lavish spread of lobster bisque, pork belly, duck-stuffed quail and truffle-crusted wagyu beef tenderloin. Christine and Loi honored their roots by incorporating the Vietnamese wedding tradition of personally thanking each guest for coming and in return each family gifting money as a token of well-wishes. For the couple's first dance, Loi’s nephew surprised them by singing “One Call Away” by Charlie Puth. —Marissa Hermanson
