A Romantic Garden Wedding at the Vintage Estate in Yountville, California

A close friend urged Samantha Wong (27 and a therapist) to meet Vu Nguyen (31 and a businessman) while she was visiting family in San Francisco, California. “After ditching each other a few times, we agreed to meet over a decadent dinner at Gary Dankos,” Samantha says. “The food and the company were awesome.” A long-distance romance between Vancouver, British Columbia, and Northern California was set in motion. Vu fielded several suggestions from Samantha regarding engagement rings over their courtship, ultimately choosing a classic style with a contemporary rose gold band. Echoing the tone set by the contemporary ring, the palette for the day was a refreshing combination of rose gold, cream, greenery and blush pink. Samantha and Vu's wedding for 160 guests was held at the Vintage Estate in Yountville, California, for its natural beauty and relaxed approach. “It is quite difficult to pull off a wedding in Napa because of wine and beer restrictions,” Samantha says. “It was necessary to have hard liquor to celebrate since Vu’s family is Vietnamese, and cognac and other liquors are essential to celebrating. We also wanted to have a party that would last as long as we wanted.” In a nod to Samantha's Canadian roots, Vancouver-based Matdivad Photography captured the day. After a sunny outdoor ceremony, guests covered their shoulders with cozy wraps (which doubled as wedding favors), dined under romantic bistro lights, signed Jenga bricks with their tips on the "building blocks to a happy marriage” and donned flip-flops to dance to contemporary hits by Synchronicity Strings. “Have fun,” Samantha says. “Don't argue with family about this or that detail. When everything actually happens, it will be so special to enjoy it all with your loved ones.” —Carolyn Meers

Samantha tried on over 100 dresses in order to gather inspiration for her custom-made gown. Bridesmaids wore long infinity-style dresses that they customized themselves and accented with rose gold jewelry.
Vu had fielded several suggestions from Samantha regarding engagement rings, and he ultimately chose a classic style set in rose gold.
In another DIY feat, Samantha hand-folded origami cones and strung them up to serve as a backdrop during the ceremony. A slight wind during their vows brought mesmerizing movement to Samantha's hard work.
"I always knew I wanted something white, lace, sweetheart neckline and trumpet style," says Samantha, who had her fitted gown custom made.
In the lead-up to the wedding, Samantha learned to do calligraphy and crafted one-of-a-kind place settings for each guest. She also handcrafted gold-leaf bowls that held floating candles. "I got the inspiration from Pinterest and thought it would create a soft, romantic glow and vibe for our guests," Samantha says.
Fleur de Lisa bakery in Santa Rosa, California, created a lush three-layer cake topped with apricots, cherries and strawberries, a perfect fit for the wedding's verdant natural setting in Napa Valley.
Tesoro Flowers of Sonoma, California, helped bring Samantha's Pinterest-inspired floral concepts to life. Centerpieces were a softly colorful combination of cream hydrangeas, greenery and blush and gold peonies.
