A Romantic Garden Wedding at Villa Sancti Di Bella Vista in Malibu, California

Cassidy Gorden (26 and in brand marketing) met Cutter MacLeod (27 and in commercial real estate) when he chose the seat behind hers in high school biology class. “Our courtship started after I noticed he made quite the effort to always get my books for me in class,” Cassidy says. The two dated through college and later moved to San Francisco. For their earthy garden wedding, these SoCal natives wanted to celebrate in their seaside hometown. They chose Villa Sancti Di Bella Vista in the Malibu, California, hills for its spaciousness and versatility. “We were able to use all areas of the property, making each part of the day feel special without requiring additional transportation,” Cassidy says. "Our palette included tons of varying greens, muted yellow, cream and soft blush tones. We wanted to play off the manicured gardens, where the ceremony and reception took place, by enhancing the greenery rather than competing with it." Cutter and Cassidy shared personalized vows in front of 190 guests near the property’s rose garden. The ceremony was followed by an open-air reception on the villa’s lawns. Family-style dinner was served to guests on polished wooden banquet tables topped with silver eucalyptus arrangements and candlelit lanterns. Later, easy-to-grab desserts like mini almond oil cakes and brownie bites were perfect for when the dancing revved up. “I would highly encourage a first look,” Cassidy says. “It helps calm the nerves and makes the moment you first see each other so much more intimate and special—plus your bridal party will thank you since everyone gets to take photos before.” —Carolyn Meers

Cutter consulted with his mother and Cassidy's mother before choosing her ring. "He gave me the most beautiful oval-cut set in platinum with a halo and diamond band. It was exactly the ring I had always dreamed of," Cassidy says.
Cassidy and Cutter's wedding party was full of lifelong friends. "We felt so fortunate to have our 10 bridesmaids and groomsmen stand up there with us, since many of these friendships dated back to kindergarten," Cassidy says. "The amount of history among the entire group made for some great speeches and quite a few tears."
"I had my bridesmaids choose from three styles by Jenny Yoo in blush to play off my dress and felt the color was flattering to all skin types," Cassidy says. "I let them choose their styles, hair and shoes so that they were able to feel comfortable and encompass their own styles a bit."
For a wild, garden-fresh bouquet, the Little Branch florist created a robust bouquet with blush and cream garden roses, anemones, ranunculus and silver dollar eucalyptus. "I wanted the overall style to be loose, organic and slightly wild with an elegant spin," Cassidy says.
"We didn't have a specific theme, but we centered the design on the words 'romantic,' 'earthy elegance' and 'delicately wild,'" Cassidy says. "Our palette included tons of varying greens, muted yellow, cream and soft blush tones. We wanted to play off the manicured gardens where the ceremony and reception took place and enhance the greenery rather than compete with it."
Cutter paired his midnight blue Tom Ford suit with a sleek black tie. His boutonniere was made with white ranunculus and textured greenery.
Guests could grab a program with blush watercolor floral detailing on their way to the rose garden ceremony.
"Our rounded, asymmetrical arch came together exactly as I had envisioned," says Cassidy, who chose a bounty of muted blush and butter yellow blossoms along with shimmering silver dollar leaves.
After a brief 15-minute ceremony under a handcrafted floral arch at Villa Sancti Di Bella Vista in Malibu, California, Cassidy and Cutter had their first kiss.
Cassidy and Cutter chose the Villa Sancti Di Bella Vista in Malibu, California, for its versatility and beauty. "Cutter and I grew up in Malibu and wanted our wedding to feel comfortable and peaceful for our guests," Cassidy says. "We wanted views of the ocean with an elevated backyard feel."
