Amber Silva (27, bridal salon owner) and Derik Silva (32, sales) met while she was driving him home from a night of dancing with mutual friends. “In those five minutes, we really connected,” says Amber, and a week later, Derik asked her out on their first date. When Amber graduated from college, Derik planned a surprise engagement at Lake Tahoe with all of Amber’s family; he put one knee down in the sand and proposed at the beach at their lake house. When deciding where to have their ceremony, the couple looked all over before the perfect place finally hit them: Lake Tahoe, a place that is very special to them and their families, where they spend all of their free time and got engaged. The ceremony took place on the beach at Lakeside Ballroom at the Hyatt in Incline Village. Guests were serenaded to the acoustics of Bobby Jo Valentine in the warm sunshine and treated to lavender champagne, chilled grapes and parasols for shade. After Amber and Derik said “I do,” the wedding party hopped into a yacht for a private spin around Lake Tahoe to listen to music and enjoy the beautiful weather. Guests enjoyed traditional Tahoe rum runners during the cocktail hour before moving into a laid-back dinner in the ballroom. “I had always loved lavender, so the wedding centered around that color and flower,” says Amber. Lavender was incorporated throughout the wedding: Amber’s bouquet had lavender, as did Derik’s boutonniere, and each guest had a piece of lavender at their place setting. Amber and Derik’s casual beach wedding had a very natural, wildflower look to perfectly match the breathtaking mountains and nature at Lake Tahoe.

"I had seen a photo of a Claire Pettibone dress in a magazine and I totally fell in love with it," says Amber. The ethereal dress featured a tulle overlay with circle appliques.
The wedding centered around the lavender color and flower, and it was incorporated into Amber's bouquet with astilbe and a blend of other flowers for a natural, wildflower look.

Amber and Derik were married on the beach at Lake Tahoe outside the Lakeside Ballroom at the Hyatt Lake Tahoe.
"One of my favorite moments of the day was our cocktail hour. My husband and I, along with our bridal party, boarded a yacht to take us around the lake," says Amber. The wedding party enjoyed the time to take in the moment and reflect on the day together.
Natural Ivory Hanging Escort Cards at Lake reception
For table names, Amber and her team of coordinators took the glass out of antiqued picture frames, lined the cardboard on the inside with lace, and then twisted a wired twine by hand into different towns and places in Lake Tahoe that Amber and Derik had been.
Beautiful, natural floral arrangements of roses, hydrangea, moss and branches decorated the Lakeside Ballroom for a wildflower look.
Lavender was incorporated throughout the wedding, so each guest got a sprig of the flower at their place setting.
Guests could leave personal, handwritten notes to the newlyweds on a tree displayed at the reception to help grow their love.
Amber and Derik had their cake by Jill Branch brought up from the San Francisco Bay Area. "She is an extremely talented baker and I couldn't imagine not having her cake on our day," says Amber.
