When Kate Fortney (29 and a boutique owner) and Chris Horne (31 and a self-employed ticket broker) visited the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel in Cleveland, Ohio, they knew it was the perfect all-in-one destination for their contemporary New Year's Eve nuptials. "I really wanted to plan a party like I had never done before," says Kate, a former event planner. "I had never planned a New Year's Eve wedding, and I knew it could be something really spectacular." The couple exchanged vows in an intimate ballroom surrounded by airy drapery, soft candlelight and a lavish floral arbor of white hydrangeas and blush roses. After the ceremony, guests were immediately greeted with champagne and escorted to the hotel's Grand Ballroom for the glamorous reception, where no design element was left untouched. "I focused on the details," Kate says. "I wanted people to be surprised at every turn." With a vision of modern romance, Kate and Chris infused the luxurious space with an elegant palette of white, blush and gold with charcoal accents. Ornate chandeliers, dramatic floral arrangements and plenty of warm candles created a romantic ambiance, while gold sequin linens, glitzy confetti poppers and a custom dance floor played up the party atmosphere. Kate surprised everyone (including Chris!) by changing into a gold party dress later in the evening, and guests were showered with sparkly confetti at the stroke of midnight. "The next two hours was a huge party, and everyone had a great time," Kate says. —Samantha Meux
