A Romantic, Rustic Wedding at Antonio Plantation's Big Red Barn in Port Allen, Louisiana

Kala Doucet (29 and a speech language pathologist) and Josh DiBenedetto (32 and an adaptive physical education teacher) planned a romantic, rustic wedding at the Big Red Bard on Antonio Plantation in Port Allen, Louisiana. The day started at St. Francis Chapel in New Roads, Louisiana, where Kala and Josh exchanged vows in a traditional Catholic ceremony. Built in 1894, the chapel exuded old-world charm and offered plenty of space to host the couple’s families and friends. Kala and Josh then whisked their guests off to the Big Red Barn on Antonio Plantation for a night of dinner and dancing under the stars. “We wanted a nontraditional wedding and reception,” Kala says. “We both love rustic buildings and decorations, so the old chapel and rustic barn were perfect locations for our big day.” The couple transformed the Big Red Barn into a romantic scene, with a palette of soft pastel pink, purple and sage hues, arrangements of lush blooms made by Kala and her mother, chandeliers and plenty of warm candlelight. Burlap table runners, painted mason jars and vintage accents tied into the evening’s laid-back vibe. After dining on mouthwatering Southern fare and indulging in homemade cookies, the couple and their guests hit the dance floor, dancing the night away to the sounds of Kala and Josh's favorite local band, the In-Laws. A tip for the taking from Kala: “Our original wedding coordinator was unable to attend the rehearsal and wedding day. We had a replacement and almost everything went smoothly. Our priest was late for the ceremony and the microphone wasn't working. But despite the few mishaps, it was a memorable event that everyone seemed to enjoy. Know that not everything about the big day will be perfect, but after all is said and done, you will have memories to last a lifetime.”
