A Romantic Stable Wedding at Russell Lands on Lake Martin in Alexander City, Alabama
Three months ahead of time, Rush Hill (23 and an assistant project manager) told Ruthie Schaefer (22 and a pediatric registered nurse) to set aside a weekend in December so that he could take her on a surprise trip after a long semester of nursing school. "When the day finally arrived, he picked me up with a folder that had two tickets to Laguna Beach, California and we had the most wonderful weekend together," says Ruthie. "Rush dropped down on his knee and proposed on the beach at sunset and it was so special because it was just the two of us on the other side of the country, getting to be together in that moment and for a few days after just soaking in all the excitement together!" The couple exchanged vows in front of the stables at Russell Lands on Lake Martin in Alexander City, Alabama. The stable ceremony was decorated with a neutral color palette and the bridesmaids added a pop of mint in green rustic-chic Free People dresses. The bride carried a textured cream bouquet of garden roses and wildflowers and changed her lace-trimmed veil for a fresh flower crown during the laid-back reception. "The stable had so much character and beautiful colors that we didn't need to dress it up much—I just wanted everything to be simple, rustic and elegant," says Ruthie. "We decorated the reception with led candles and my bridesmaids' bouquets, along with lots of greenery around the buttercream cake."
