Erin Coughlin (28 and a dentist) and Naif Sinada (29 and a dentist) met in dental school and started dating at the end of their first year. Three years later, on a trip to Hawaii to celebrate their graduation, Naif proposed in front of a crowd on Waikiki Beach. The couple got married in the Scottsdale, Arizona desert, since not only is that where they met, fell in love and lived together for the majority of their relationship, but they wanted it to be a pleasant travel destination for their family and friends to vacation and enjoy the wedding weekend. The couple chose a color palette of blush and gold to glam up the desert and achieve a classic and elegant style. It was important to the couple to blend American culture with Naif’s Sudanese roots, so they incorporated a traditional Sudanese ceremony into their reception at Troon North Golf Club, complete with Sudanese music, dancing, rituals such as drinking milk, blessings with oils and perfumes and throwing candy. Erin and Naif wore traditional Sudanese attire, and “our guests, American and Sudanese alike, had an excellent time participating and experiencing in all the fun,” says Erin. “I look back on pictures and am reminded of how the Sudanese traditions not only seamlessly blended our cultures together, but also blended our families together.”

Erin designed the wedding invitations with the help of her sister-in-law to carry on the blush and floral wedding style.
Erin fell in love with the first dress she tried on. “I loved all the bling and could picture myself walking down the aisle with the Arizona sun making it really sparkle,” she says.
The bridesmaids wore floor length blush gowns, some with a subtle floral pattern, for classic elegance in the desert.

During dental school, the couple loved going to happy hour and listening to the live music of AJ Rodriguez, so they asked him to play for their ceremony and cocktail hour. “I started crying before I even walked down the aisle when I heard AJ singing our song,” says Erin.
“The most important part to us was the wedding ceremony,” says Erin. “It was what would bring us together as husband and wife and we wanted it to be special and meaningful.” The couple wrote their own vows, and incorporated a Celtic handfasting blessing that each of their mothers read during the ceremony.
