A Romantic Wedding With Modern Flair at The Henry, Autograph Collection in Dearborn, Michigan

Leila Obeid (27 and a physician assistant) and John Hanna (28 and a medical student) used a palette of dreamy blush, rose and cream hues to bring their vision for a romantic, ethereal celebration to life.

The couple gathered their family and friends at the Basilica of St. Mary Orthodox Church in Livonia, Mich. for a traditional Coptic Orthodox ceremony, complete with classic hymns, crowns and vestments. With striking murals and impressive high ceilings, Leila and John decided to keep the decor to a minimum, adding two floral arrangements to the altar and subtle white bouquets along the aisle.

The newlyweds switched gears for the reception, whisking guests off to The Henry, Autograph Collection in Dearborn, Mich, a sophisticated, contemporary hotel with chic urban flair. “We fell in love with the ballroom and knew that the fresh look of the whole hotel would be something our guests would enjoy,” says Leila. “We also chose this venue because it had the convenience of being a hotel for our out-of-town guests.”

For a dramatic, textured look, the pair filled the elegant space with a mix of round and long, rectangular tables, which they topped with ivory crush organza linens, varied arrangements of ivory and pink roses and warm candlelight. Soft uplighting amplified the decor’s romantic effect, while details like monogrammed cocktail napkins added a note of personality to the day. Before hitting the dance floor, the couple treated guests to a slice of wedding cake in flavors like red velvet and carrot cake and a gourmet coffee station that went over big.

A tip for the taking from Leila: “A piece of advice for future couples is to enjoy the wedding planning process and to make the best of every situation. Try to take a few minutes on your wedding day and soak it all in. You'll be glad you did later!”
