A Romantic Winter Wedding at The Gardens on Millbrook in Raleigh, North Carolina

Cherelle Smith, 27, a pediatrician, and Darren Ramsey, 28, a dentist met in college during a summer science enrichment program for students interested in medical, dental and pharmacy school at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. "As a child, you were always told that when you picked on a young lady, that meant you liked them. In this case it was true," says Darren. "Cherrelle became the target of all my unwanted attention. As the summer went on, I stayed on task, making sure once the program was over she would remember me." His plan worked and the couple ended up dating, albeit long-distance, all through medical and dental school. Darren proposed a few years later at Duke Gardens followed by a surprise photoshoot and engagement dinner. Both Darren and Charrelle are from North Carolina, so a wedding in their home state was an obvious choice. The Garden at Millbrook in Raleigh was the ideal spot to host the winter affair, allowing the couple to have both their ceremony and reception at one venue, all with the help of a catering and event coordinator with rave reviews. Winter romance and southern sophistication were the themes for the day, giving way to a classic color palette of ivory, white, silver and gold, ambient candlelight, lush ivory and white blooms and a ceremony under the stars. And of course there were a few surprises thrown into the mix, including falling snow during the ceremony that made the heated tent feel like a winter wonderland.
