A Rustic Beach-Inspired Wedding at the Creek Club at I'On in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina
Adrienne Johnston (26 and a teacher) and David Harmon (27 and an inside sales representative) met through mutual friends one night at a local bar. They had an instant connection and spent the whole night talking. Adrienne decided to go for it and gave David her phone number. He called the next day and from there things only went up. Fourth of July weekend a few years later, David proposed at Adrienne's family home in Arlington, OH with both of their families present. Growing up, both Adrienne and David spent their summers at the beach, so for their wedding, Charleston, SC seemed like the spot to celebrate. The expansive lawn and views of Hobcaw Creek at Creek Club at I'On won them over, fitting perfectly with their vision. Playing up the waterfront setting, Adrienne drew inspiration from sea glass for the color palette, choosing soft shades of pale blue and green. "Collecting sea glass is one of my favorite memories from spending my summers at the beach," says Adrienne, "so I feel like incorporating sea glass-like colors into the wedding was only natural." The lush bouquets of fragrant ivory blooms felt soft and romantic and were repurposed for the reception, the bridesmaids placing them in dusty shale painted mason jars set over lengths of burlap fabric for the centerpieces. As a nod to the season and the wedding's southern locale, the couple sent their guests home with homemade peach jelly and served up a mouthwatering menu of Southern and seaside favorites like shrimp and grits, mini crab cakes and succotash.
