Julie Rea (26 and an accounting professional) and Stephen Palmier (22 and in the US Air Force) chose Reinstein Ranch in Livermore, California, for their rustic, bohemian-inspired autumn wedding. “We had one visit to the ranch and signed the contract the same day,” says Julie, who was drawn to the property’s 200-year old barn and pastoral scenery. “The surrounding hills with horses and cattle grazing was exactly what Stephen and I had in mind. It was the perfect canvas, with incredible natural beauty and country charm, for us to paint our vision.” Julie and Stephen stuck to a neutral palette, focusing on soft greens, ivory and tan with pops of plum. “I was inspired by our shared love of country living—natural beauty, western elements and romantic touches,” Julie says. After an outdoor ceremony overlooking the pastoral grounds, the newlyweds and their 90 guests played lawn games and grabbed drinks from a retro-chic Airstream bar car before moving into the draft barn for a cozy barbecue dinner. Silver horseshoe favors were situated at each place setting. “It was important that our wedding felt like a direct reflection of our interests and personalities,” Julie says. Julie created the Western-inspired invitation suite from a digital template she found on Etsy. She added the horseshoe emblem, which threads through the day's decor.
"I chose a Willowby by Watters gown that I loved and added sleeves made from extra lace to make it my own," Julie says. PJB Designs crafted the garden-fresh bouquet.
In keeping with the day's relaxed, bohemian theme, Julie's bridesmaids wore long, flowing gowns with a subtle floral print. Bouquets were a combination of dahlias, ranunculus, roses, hanging amaranthus, hanging pepperberries, snowberries, waxflowers, seeded eucalyptus, silver-dollar eucalyptus and olive branches.
The decor for the outdoor ceremony near the barn was recycled: "I set aside eucalyptus stumps our venue had piled up from a tree trimming and grouped them together on each side of the altar and on alternating sides of the aisle for the ceremony space," Julie says. "We placed flower arrangements on top to soften them up."
Julie's sister helped craft the day's signs using old wooden palettes. Guests sat on benches and hay bales covered with falsa blankets.
Guests found their seating assignments on papers clipped to wood-framed chicken wire.
Inside the 19th-century barn, long wooden picnic tables were topped with simple eucalyptus garlands.
True to the rustic ranch theme—and in accordance to the tone set by the invitations— each guest was given a silver horseshoe as a wedding favor.
At the reception at Reinstein Ranch in Livermore, California, photos of the newlyweds were hung on a string that spanned the barn.
At the barn reception, long farm-style tables were topped with simple green centerpieces, and falsa blankets cushioned the bench seating.
"With worries of rain, moved our reception inside the barn, and it was a great decision," Julie says. "Bringing in picnic tables and softening them up with eucalyptus garlands created a space that was perfectly intimate and cozy with lots of charm."
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed live music and cocktails from Bar Car SF's revamped 1965 Airstream trailer.

Cakes by Bev crafted Julie and Stephen's simple three-tier dessert. "We picked vanilla and chocolate marble cake with a vanilla pudding filling and textured buttercream frosting," Julie says. "For our cake topper we chose a hand carved, wooden bear and bunny figurine, a nod to our nicknames for each other."
