A Rustic Casual Wedding at Rhinegeist Brewery in Cincinnati, Ohio

After exchanging vows in a Cincinnati park, Liz Johnson (32 and an IT consultant) and Andy Mechtenberg (38 and a remodeling contractor) wanted a relaxed, rustic locale for their laid-back reception, which they found in the exposed brick, wood floors and hanging lights of the historic downtown building where they partied. While the ceremony was relocated to Washington Park just a week before the wedding, it ended up being a blessing in disguise. “We love that park, and we were really happy with the sunny fall day we had,” Liz says of exchanging handwritten vows beneath giant oak trees as guests enjoyed local libations and acoustic tunes. Festivities continued at a brewery with a rooftop cocktail hour and, per the groom’s one and only request, Southern barbecue fare. One of Liz’s friends watercolored the table numbers, which sat atop wood pallets that Andy cleaned and cut for the occasion. As for the day's design inspiration, it began when Liz gave a swatch of the grenadine-hued bridesmaid dresses to her florist. “I wanted something fun and colorful,” she says of the punchy palette.
