A Rustic-Chic Military Wedding at The Farm in Rome, Georgia
Even though Julia Roberts (23 and a behavior therapist) met Matthew (Matt) Jarrell (25 and a Marine Corps pilate) in high school, they didn't have their first date until college. After an evening of driving around and playing pool, Matt rented an airplane and took Julia flying so that she could see the sun set from the sky. Needless to say, it was magical and the pair began dating long distance while Matt continued studying at the Naval Academy. Matt proposed two years later when Julia was in town visiting for the weekend. "The whole day was planned out like our first date—we went flying and then after we landed, he popped the question at the airport with a beautiful ring," says Julia. After a 19 month engagement, the couple exchanged vows during an outdoor stable ceremony at The Farm in Rome, Georgia. "What really made me say 'yes' to The Farm was just how many place—indoors and outdoor—on the property we could have had our ceremony and reception," says Julia. "Each location offered something different but equally beautiful!" Julia and Matt mixed vintage accents with a beige, blush, ivory and champagne color scheme to achieve their "rustic-chic" wedding. A variety of antique vases and trinkets collected by the bride along with burlap runners decorated the understated indoor reception. But Julia amped up the glamour when it came to her gown, selecting a strapless Leanne Marshall dress paired with her mother's lace veil. Having formerly worked at Bridals by Lori equally helped and hindered Julia's dress search. "I was definitely spoiled when it came to what I wanted to wear on my wedding day," says Julia. "Being around such beautiful designer gowns set my standards pretty high!"
