A Rustic, DIY Wedding at Maple Shade Farm in Delhi, New York

Despite living in a city in Connecticut, Mary Pomerantz (28 and a social worker) and Sam Pomerantz (29 and in construction management) knew they wanted to have a barn wedding in upstate New York, where Mary grew up. They immediately fell in love with Maple Shade Farm in Delhi, New York, where they could play off the venue's country style. "The inside of the barn took our breath away," Mary says, "and we started to visualize an amazing and epic venue, that was simple and so us." They also instantly connected with the venue's owners, Abby and Jay, who they say really helped make their vision come to life. The wedding-day photographer, Amber J Photography, captured the casual wedding from the outdoor ceremony filled with wooden accents and DIY projects to the barn reception with plenty of mason jars and pink and teal colors. When Mary began planning the wedding, she knew she wanted to create a space that was well thought-out and detailed. "I kept going through the day, thinking about the moment guests arrived to the moment everyone left and really stuck to doing many subtle details," she says. For example, as guests arrived at the ceremony, they found a popcorn machine with bags of popcorn hand-stamped with Mary and Sam's initials displayed on a rustic-style stand. The reception inside the barn continued the rustic look of the day and featured rectangular dining tables dressed in white tablecloths and decorated with mason jar centerpieces and burlap table runners. A few centerpieces contained pink and white flower arrangements created by Abby from Maple Shade Farms following a wildflower look suggested by Mary. "I really thought through every second of the wedding day, and asked myself what could that moment have that would make it special," Mary says. "Because of this, Sam and I were able to exhibit our personalities and style into the whole day."
