A Rustic Lowcountry Wedding at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in Charleston, South Carolina

Maryland natives Carly Cross (28 and a nurse) and Spencer Disque (28 and an engineer) left the mid-Atlantic for a classic Southern destination wedding at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in Charleston, South Carolina. “I fell in love with Charleston from going to visit my grandparents there. I love the history and romanticism in the city,” Carly says. “My husband and I visit two to three times each year and hope to move there eventually.” With its Spanish-moss-covered oak trees, views of the Ashley River and a romantic carriage house, Magnolia was a picture perfect venue for Carly and Spencer to say “I do.” A subtle and soothing palette of soft yellow, ivory and green blended beautifully with the plantation’s natural surroundings. Carly and Spencer personalized their alfresco ceremony by having a friend officiate and writing their own heartfelt vows. A burlap aisle runner, lanterns and shepherd’s hooks that held galvanized buckets filled with hydrangeas and yellow bluporum adorned their ceremony, which was held under a grand old oak tree. The couple decorated their rustic reception with whitewashed farm tables, burlap table runners and wooden chiavari chairs. Chandeliers adorned in greenery and table arrangements of white and yellow flowers in reclaimed-wood flower boxes and galvanized buckets gave the dinner party an organic feel. Details included wood-burned "welcome" bag tags and champagne labels made by Carly’s mom. “My husband and I are pretty relaxed, adventurous and fun people, which I think was reflected in our celebration,” Carly says. “By early in the evening of our reception, most guests were on the dance floor, having a blast.” —Marissa Hermanson
