A Rustic Mountain Wedding at Timber Ridge Lodge in Keystone, Colorado

Lindsay Uhl and John Aherne wanted to give their guests a “touch of adventure,” so they got married at Colorado’s Timber Ridge Lodge in Keystone. Scenic mountains served as a backdrop for the first look (which was a 45-minute gondola lift away from the venue), the ceremony and the portrait session. “Mountains have always been sacred and powerful places, thriving with life and spirit, and a critical element of our day was respecting and incorporating the atmosphere of the Rockies,” Lindsay says. That’s why the couple chose a natural color palette with hues of blue resembling the Rocky Mountains in June. Lindsay wore a lace dress and cathedral-length veil, and she accessorized with a simple white bouquet. John sported a black suit and tie. For the reception, Lindsay and John decorated the wood lodge with fur, leather, stone and natural flower arrangements. Hanging signage with calligraphy, eclectic lounge furniture, vintage glassware and a rustic wedding cake rounded out the details. As a personal touch, the couple set up a shoe cart where guests could trade their uncomfortable heels for flip-flops.

Our favorite #MakeTradition moment: “We ordered three custom wine boxes from Etsy.com. Our unity activity was to nail shut the wine boxes, which contained handwritten notes to each other,” the bride says. “The first box is to be opened on our first anniversary, the second on our fifth anniversary and the last on our tenth anniversary.” Each box contained wine hand-selected by the bride’s father that will age to perfection on the respective anniversary dates.
