A Rustic, Nature-Inspired Wedding at a Private Residence in Alpine Meadows, California

Since the couple met in the woods of Michigan, it was only natural they wanted to be surrounded by beautiful woodland for their wedding day. Kimberly Everett (25 and an oboe player) and Derek Ganong (25 and a trumpet player) got married on the property of their close family friend's private residence in Alpine Meadows, California, where the couple used the Lake Tahoe waterfront as inspiration for their natural, rustic wedding with an elegant twist. "We wanted to focus on the beauty of Lake Tahoe and the gorgeous venue, so it was difficult to not go crazy with the decorations," Kimberly says. "We wanted to enhance the natural setting, not detract from it." So they did just that through choosing a burgundy, silver and slate blue palette that contrasted perfectly with the green and neutral hues of the surrounding environment, all captured by Hannah Arista Photography. Kimberly and Derek knew they wanted Picasso calla lilies incorporated into their flowers with no signs of baby's breath; they left the rest up to Heidi Gellerman of Green with Envy Events. Burgundy peonies and dahlias, white roses, green and purple hydrangeas and, of course, their choice of calla lilies was seen in every corner of the natural space—from decorating the top of the wrought-iron wedding arch to the wooden box centerpieces filled with lush flowers, and even on top of the simple three-tier wedding cake. We wish we were at the occasion ourselves, especially with live entertainment from loved ones and the couple themselves bringing music to everyone's ears, playing on the wooden stage draped with string lights and linens. "Remember that this is your day and that no matter what anyone says or feels, you have to decide what you want," Kimberly says. "As long as you end up married and have a great celebration of your love, nothing else matters."
