A Rustic, Nautical Wedding at the Island House in Johns Island, South Carolina

One day at the beach with common friends, Lauren Clark (29 and a digital sales executive) and Todd Hundley (32 and an insurance broker) happened to meet. The two hit it off and began dating soon after. Lauren and Todd knew they wanted a wedding by the ocean, where their relationship had begun, so they hosted a nautical celebration in the quaint seaside town of Johns Island, South Carolina. Wanting the decor to align with an outdoor waterside wedding, Lauren focused on including rustic elements such as organic driftwood and hand-painted signs. The ceremony took place under a bamboo arbor covered in billowing sprays of garden roses. “Todd’s father acted as our marriage officiant, which gave our ceremony a nice, personal touch,” Lauren says. Another sentimental touch was using Todd’s grandfather’s beautiful vintage leather travel case as the card box on the gift table. The reception was held under a tent draped elegantly in white fabric with light-pink and white paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling. “My mom, who has impeccable penmanship, wrote our escort cards and tied them with vintage-key bottle openers, which also served as our favors,” Lauren says. To capture the preppy Lowcountry charm, the groomsmen dressed in suspenders with pink, blue and white bow ties. Bouquets of succulents, garden roses, hypericum berries and anemones added a rustic touch juxtaposing Lauren’s elegant mermaid-style gown with dramatic lace overlay. Juliette Cheatham
