A Rustic Outdoor Wedding at Custer State Park in Custer, South Dakota

After getting engaged on the beach during a candlelit dinner in Puerto Vallarta, to-be-weds Kaylora (26) and Justin Thiry (26) quickly began planning a June back in their home state of South Dakota. And since the pair knew an outdoor wedding was a must, they looked to the Game Lodge in Custer State Park to bring their rustic-meets-vintage vision to life. "After hearing nothing but great things about the lodge, we decided it was the perfect place to say 'I do'," Kaylora says. "It's such a beautiful space nestled in the Black Hills and it's surrounded by trees and a flowing creek. It's just amazing." A muted color palette of bush, ivory and gray paired perfectly with the couple's love of all things rustic—including painted DIY centerpieces and a twine-topped wedding cake. The wedding wasn't without plenty of wooden details and pastel bouquets, either. "We wanted our guests to experience the feeling of a 'fancy' wedding while still being able to relax," Kaylora says. In fact, right before their ceremony on the Lover's Leap Deck, Kaylora and Justin encouraged 180 guests to bring a drink to their seats to watch the couple wed. "We had a lot of people come up to us and say it was one of the best weddings they had ever been to!" Kaylora says. Kaylora let each of her bridesmaids wear a dress of their own choosing. The result: mismatched lace sheaths in shades of blush and ivory.

Dusty Miller and Rose Bouquet
The bride wore a vintage ivory lace wedding dress complete with a champagne gold underlay. To finish the look, she paired the vintage find with ivory Tom's wedges.
Victoria's Garden florist used dusty miller, mums, baby's breath and roses to create this lace-wrapped bouquet for the bride.
As a gift to his soon-to-be bride, Justin surprised Kaylora with a unique pearl necklace. "It matched perfectly with my dress!" she says.
In search of the perfect outdoor venue, Kaylora and Justin eventually chose the Game Lodge in Custer State Park for both their ceremony and reception. "After hearing nothing but great things about the lodge, we decided it was the perfect place to say 'I do'," Kaylora says. "It's such a beautiful space nestled in the Black Hills and it's surrounded by trees and a flowing creek. It's just amazing."
