A Rustic Wedding at Rode's Barn in Swedesboro, New Jersey

Kristen Rodriguez (28 and in health care) and Will Rodriguez (26 and a loss-prevention manager) focused their rustic celebration on family and persona

Kristen Rodriguez (28 and in health care) and Will Rodriguez (26 and a loss-prevention manager) focused their rustic celebration on family and personalized details. “This wedding was not only about the love we share for each other, but the love for those who mean so much to us,” Kristen says. Fulfilling her dream of getting married in a barn, they chose Rode's Barn in Swedesboro, New Jersey, as the location and personalized its homey atmosphere with tons of photos. During their reception, 105 guests filled the wooden building and open-air patio. Family and friends snagged pictures in a DIY painted cutout of Kristen, Will and their dog, Jeter, before taking a few steps on the dance floor and chatting at their tables. Each table's centerpiece from Tracey Reynolds Floral Design played off the barn’s rustic vibe with lush peonies or gold candelabras covered in ivy. Of course, children were also a big part of the celebration. “Since I used to babysit, I have a few very special children who are a huge part of my life,” Kristen says. “They lit up the dance floor the entire night.” For the guests who were kids at heart, Kristen and Will gave out glass-jar wedding favors filled with their favorite candies. Kristen and Will incorporated their dog, Jeter, into a few aspects of the wedding, including their invitation suite. They chose classic ivory stationery with a small gold border that stood out from the center. A black-and-white image of Jeter was also placed on their RSVP card.
Every member of the bridal party had a different look. Kristen’s bridesman definitely stood out from the group with a gray suit, neutral tie and a basil plant as his “bouquet!” Her bridesmaids wore the same dress, but one woman personalized it with added straps and a shortened, tea-length skirt. To tie things together, they both carried natural arrangements of blush peonies, greenery and orange hypericum berries from Tracey Reynolds Floral Design.

“I had always dreamed of a barn wedding,” Kristen says. After the couple moved from North Carolina to New Jersey, she did a ton of research and found Rode's Barn in Swedesboro, New Jersey. Kristen and Will highlighted its exposed wood walls and high ceilings with simple string lights and sweet chandeliers covered in greenery.
“I wanted a palette that was soft and romantic,” Kristen says. With this in mind, they used only neutral and gold details as well as a few strands of ivy to decorate the space. Some tables were paired with these elegant gold candelabras covered in ivy. Two low arrangements of blush peonies, white delphiniums and peach tea roses from Tracey Reynolds Floral Design also accented the decoration.

“The barn was covered in pictures of us, our family and our friends,” Kristen says. "This wedding was about not only the love we share for each other, but the love for those who mean so much to us.” Friends and family created more memories that night with this personalized cutout of Kristen and Will with their dog, Jeter. It was painted by Kristen’s brother, Kevin.
With some help from Jewel Georgieff Wedding Design, their coordinator, Kristen and Will drew on Rode's Barn's homey atmosphere for the dessert table display. Mismatched barrels, wooden ladders and a few vintage touches were included in the design. They covered each tier with four flavors of cupcakes, a two-tier ombre cake or these sweet candy jar wedding favors.
For their wedding cake, Kristen and Will chose something a little more personal and colorful. They went with a two-tier ruffled confection covered with mauve ombre detailing. The topper even had a silhouette of them with their dog, Jeter.
On top of a two-tier ombre wedding cake, their guests were also treated to two tiers filled with cupcakes. Red velvet, chocolate-covered strawberry, coconut and yellow cake cupcakes with chocolate icing were all on the menu. Some even had “R” monograms piped onto the icing.
Kristen used to babysit, so children are a huge part of her life. Their wedding favors brought out the kid in every guest with these mini glass jars filled with candy.
