Kristen McCaney (30, an advertising professional) and Ken Trombetta (31, a hedge fund analyst) dated for over six years – two of them long distance – before Ken proposed on the beach in Stone Harbor, New Jersey, informing their wedding venue from the start.“After we got engaged, we knew we wanted to get married at the Shore,” Kristen said. “Ken’s grandparents had a house in Ocean City, New Jersey, and he spent many summers there. My parents have a house in Avalon, New Jersey, and it just has so many memories. We also wanted a location that was accessible to our friends in New York, his family in Pittsburgh, and my family in the Philadelphia area. The Shore was the perfect spot and also made it feel like a destination. We went to visit Congress Hall in Cape May, New Jersey, a few days after our engagement, since we were already at the Shore, and fell in love. It was unique, fun, glamorous, luxurious and historic, plus we could have all of the events in one place. It was beyond perfect and it felt like us.”Their bright seaside venue naturally called for cheery, nautical colors, which the bride has always loved.“We decided that the theme for the wedding would be ‘Seaside Chic’. The wedding décor and flowers would have a lot of navy and white stripes with pops of persimmon and gray,” Kristen said. “I’ve always been drawn to and inspired by the sea and nautical looks. It just seems so classic and timeless. We had navy and white striped décor throughout. Each of the bouquets was tied with navy and white striped ribbon. The cocktail tables were covered in navy and white striped tablecloths and topped with lanterns. My mom made navy and white striped pillows for the rocking chairs that lined the Veranda at Congress Hall. The theme was carried into the ballroom with the cake and napkins tied with navy and white striped ribbon. Our flowers were gorgeous and tied the whole look together. We had arrangements throughout made of lush selections of white hydrangea, persimmon roses, white garden roses, blue thistle, blue nigella, white and dark blue delphinium, seeded eucalyptus, and dusty miller.”Kristen and Ken also made sure to make their guests’s getaway weekend extra fun with custom welcome bags filled with goodies like Philadelphia soft pretzels, Johnson's Popcorn caramel corn, Sarris chocolate covered pretzels, water, Advil, and beer koozies. “We hope our guests felt as special and loved as they made us feel,” Kristen says.

"One of my best friends, Cristi Brinkman, who was my roommate for years in New York City, is a talented graphic designer," Kristen said. "As her gift to Ken and me, she designed our stationery and the printed materials used from the save-the-date through the wedding ceremony programs. She created the most amazing stationary with navy, white and persimmon accents that had hints of seaside chic throughout. For the invitations, we went with the classic look of letter pressing. The backs of each piece had different types of stripes and the edges were all painted in persimmon. For the front, she kept with a classic type and even illustrated a map of Cape May."

Kristen's glamorous gunmetal gray heels were the perfect addition to her chic wedding dress. "I finished off the look with Jimmy Choo’s from Saks that were the perfect heel height and color," she says.

"After the 4th dress, I tried on a stunning jacquard silk Monique Lhuillier ‘Peony’ dress in a creamy white and it felt perfect. It was classic, simple, unique, comfortable and memorable. My mom and I started crying as they put on an elbow length veil and crystal beaded belt. It was everything I dreamed of
and I could picture myself in it walking down the aisle," Kristen says.
"Ken had 6 dapper groomsmen, all from his
college days at Yale," Kristen said. "Ken wanted to gift his groomsmen and our dads with custom suits for the wedding. They wore a beautiful gray color made of a cashmere wool fabric. We picked out Ferragamo ties from Nordstrom to finish off the look. The guys wore their own black shoes and belts."
"I was lucky enough to have five amazing, beautiful and smart bridesmaids," Kristen says. "My two best friends and Ken’s three sisters were the perfect group to share my wedding day. I gave them all an option to either get different looks from J.Crew in navy or a Monique Lhuillier dress from Bella Bridesmaid. Funny enough, they all chose the Monique Lhuillier dress and it
really made each of them look so beautiful."
Kristen's friend Cristi Brinkman, who made the wedding invitations, also made the ceremony programs, menus and escort cards. "I am so lucky to have Cristi in my life, and having her play such a part in the details in the wedding made it even more special and personal," Kristen says.
"My favorite part of the outfit was their shoes," Kristen says. "I came across the most amazing navy and persimmon striped pumps from J.Crew and knew that they needed to have them. It really made the outfit and gave it some spunk."

"The escort cards were fitted into individual pieces
of coral for guests to take to the table and home," Kristen says. Such a pretty idea!
