Madeline Brooks (21 and a basketball player at UCLA) and Cody Poteet (20 and a baseball player at UCLA) met in geography class their first semester of college, quickly discovering their similar interests in sports and religion. After six months of dating, Cody spent the weekend with Madeline and her family at their beach house in Huntington Beach, California. Madeline and Cody took a long walk on the beach on the last night of their stay, with Madeline unaware of their friends and family hidden nearby. Cody proposed on the sandy beach, and the newly engaged couple celebrated with their loved ones for the rest of the night. The couple decided to get married on campus at the University of California, Los Angeles, where they met and fell in love. They had their ceremony on the Janss Steps terrace at sunset, overlooking the entire campus and Bel Air as a whole. The reception was held at the Sunken Gardens with minimal decor, as the natural beauty of the campus was more than enough. The simple, classic wedding was decorated with pink and white details complemented with a variety of neutral colors. Ivory garden rose bouquets served as the main flower arrangements throughout the day, and ivory lanterns hung from tree branches as reception decor. To reflect their athletic background and school spirit, the couple had a custom-made cake topper that resembled Madeline playing basketball and Cody playing baseball.

Traditional Set Silver Wedding Rings
“Madeline wore an ivory trumpet-style tulle New York wedding gown with a large train, purchased at The White Dress in Corona Del Mar,” says the couple. “She wore a hand-crafted belt around the waist, delicately embellished with small pearls, and light pink Kurt Geiger heels.”
Madeline wore an ivory tulle veil with her updo hairstyle. She held an ivory garden rose bouquet.
“The bridesmaids donned blush pink dresses from J.Crew, and the groomsmen wore black tuxes with light pink bow ties,” says the couple.
Young Ring Bearer, Outdoor Ceremony
“The only thing needed at the ceremony were the chairs! No aisle runner, archway and flower decor. All natural beauty, simple and elegant,” says the couple.
Madeline and Cody, Ceremony Recessional
The married couple stood with their wedding party, who were dressed in black and blush attire. The groomsmen sported black tuxedos, and the bridesmaids wore blush short dresses.
Romantic Shot, UCLA Campus Wedding
“We used mostly white decorations and accents. The flowers were all ivory or white garden roses, wrapped in ivory silk ribbon. The reception area was surrounded by large trees, so we hung large ivory lanterns from the trees for an elegant glow,” says the couple.
“Dolly's Cotton Candy helped us create our centerpieces. We filled long square vases with multicolored sprinkles and stuffed freshly made cotton candy on a stick in the center,” says the couple.
“We hung a large frame by fishing wire from two trees and set it up as a photo booth,” says the couple.
“Our wedding cake topper was personalized to look like us and was made to look like an action shot from our sports in our athletic jerseys,” says the couple.
