Danielle Day (28 and a wedding planner) and Brian Michelotti’s (28 and a fishing guide) elopement was the essence of simplicity. Margeaux Boles Photography captured every moment, from their intimate ceremony and scooter ride around the island to a celebratory ice cream shop visit. “I went back and forth as the planner in me wanted to create something exciting,” says Danielle. “In the end, we knew it was important to make the day about us, without the stress and worry of having to rely on multiple vendors.” The Mermaid and the Alligator in Key West, Florida, served as their accommodations and ceremony site as Danielle and Brian said “I do” under a canopy of tropical greenery. One standout detail was what Danielle wore. While Danielle’s mother was not present for the wedding, she did help to find Danielle’s white lace Diane Von Furstenberg wedding dress. “The salesperson said how great it was for a bridal shower or engagement party,” she says. “We chuckled and smiled at each other as her comment confirmed how perfect the dress was for me and our occasion: unsuspecting and beautifully simple.” For a fun twist, Brian complemented her in a navy Brooks Brothers suit jacket, which they bought for another wedding, khakis they bought on the island and casual flip-flops. “Friends and family love to give him a hard time about wearing flip-flops, but I encouraged it,” says Danielle. “It was important to us that we remained true to ourselves, so that included our fashion choices!" The couple spent the rest of the day riding around on a red scooter from Island Style Ride, before they took a boat ride and had dinner at a local restaurant. “We look back on our wedding day and smile because eloping in such simple style was so perfectly us," says Danielle.

Danielle and her mother spent an afternoon looking for just the right accessories to match her short white lace Diane Von Furstenberg wedding dress. She selected a classic pair of all-white wedding shoes by Michael Antonio and found simple earrings and a matching bracelet at her favorite store, Anthropologie.
“My most important accessory was my wedding band,” says Danielle. She complemented her classic round diamond engagement ring with a matching wedding band that includes three heirloom diamonds. The gems belonged to Brian's mother.
The team at Casa Salon in Key West, Florida, helped Danielle capture a timeless look on her wedding day. She complemented her all-lace white wedding dress with natural makeup and a classic updo with side-swept bangs.
“Within one phone call we had our venue, lodging and officiant booked!” says Danielle. The couple chose The Mermaid and the Alligator in Key West, Florida, to house their celebration. Danielle and Brian had their ceremony in the venue’s tropical garden and said “I do” under a canopy of greenery.
To include her mother in the elopement, Danielle planned a day to go wedding-dress shopping with her. Together, they found an all-lace white Diane Von Furstenberg dress. “The saleswoman said how great it was for a bridal shower or engagement party,” says Danielle. “We chuckled and smiled at each other as her comment confirmed how perfect the dress was for me and our occasion: unsuspecting and beautifully simple.”
Island Style Ride helped the couple to add another new experience to their wedding day, Danielle’s first ride on an electric scooter. After Brian taught her how to drive it, the couple spent their day riding around the island. They stopped only to take pictures and grab a cone of salted caramel ice cream, in lieu of a traditional wedding cake.
In lieu of a reception, the couple decided to tour the island with Margeaux Boles Photography and take a few pictures as they enjoyed their wedding day. Danielle and Brian stopped at a local ice cream shop and shared a cone of salted caramel ice cream and a chocolate-covered pretzel for dessert.
Brian's future groomsman suit was also his wedding suit! The couple had already picked out a navy one for him at Brooks Brothers. On the day of the elopement, Brian paired the jacket with khakis from a local Banana Republic, a white shirt and flip-flops. “Friends and family love to give him a hard time about wearing flip-flops, but I encouraged it,” says Danielle. “It was important to us that we remained true to ourselves, so that included our fashion choices!”
