A Simple Outdoor Wedding at Degas House in New Orleans, Louisiana

Daria Mazey (a water-resources planner) and Jason Ide (a union official) put their own spin on a New Orleans, Louisiana, wedding for a day filled with unexpected details. “New Orleans, where Jason grew up, is such an incredible place with a charm and feel of its own, so we wanted to honor and accent that as our theme,” Daria says. Similar to the historic city, Daria’s wedding dress came with its own flair. She walked into the backyard Jewish ceremony in an eye-catching silver wedding dress covered in vintage vine embroidery and ruffled tiers. As soon as she stepped under the chuppah, held by the couple’s friends and family members, it began to pour! Rather than getting disappointed, Daria and Jason saw it as a good sign and had two blessings before beginning their reception at Degas House. Daria and Jason highlighted the venue by using minimal decor and string lighting. "The venue is beautiful on its own," Daria says. One standout detail: the bridal-party members were dressed in all-white. Daria’s bridesmaids donned cocktail and knee-length white dresses with matching DIY baby’s breath flower crowns from Full Bloom Flowers. Her bridesman wore a matching all-white suit and natural boutonniere. Buena Lane Photography was there to capture every moment, as the couple filled their night with personal speeches and toasts. To acknowledge Daria’s Swedish culture, they even had two toastmasters. For future newlyweds, Daria shares a tip: “Make sure that you focus on the people and savor each moment when it comes, because it flies by.”
