A Simple Rustic Wedding at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in Charles, South Carolina
Brittany Young, 29, a bartender and Pete August, 30, a coffee roaster at King Beans Coffee Roasters, headed to Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in Charleston, SC to throw a romantic, rustic soiree to celebrate their summer nuptials. The pair, who met through mutual friends, knew right away that the centuries old mansion with its majestic Spanish moss covered trees, expansive grounds and stunning gardens, was the perfect spot for their wedding. The event's rustic design aesthetic was inspired by an old whiskey barrel Brittany discovered early on in the planning process. The couple chose a light, feminine color palette of gray, peach and white and garden-inspired floral arrangements of full garden roses, white wildflowers, baby's breath and lush greenery. The ceremony took place on the plantation's expansive lawn, overlooking the romantic, sun-kissed gardens and Ashley River. To capture the essence of the moment, there was a “live art” plein air painter on hand painting an oil rendering of the whole setup while it took place (a surprise from Brittany's mother). Following the ceremony, the newlyweds took a stroll in a secret garden and paused to peacock-watch under a mist of rain. The weather didn’t stop the reception, and guests danced until after dark, when they sent the couple off in a sparkling display. Each guest left with a little "perk" from the groom, who happens to work for Charleston's own King Bean Coffee Company — a gift of gourmet coffee grounds bearing the message: “Thanks a Latte!” It was a gorgeous day from start to finish.
