This wedding captured Florida's simplicity, beaches and nautical charm with just the right touch. Exactly one year after their first date, Heather Scholten (30 and a physical therapist) and Scott Christiansen (33 and in sales) started their day with a waterfront ceremony at Ocean Key Resort and Spa. Just Save The Date, Heather and Scott’s planner, accented four rows of white folding chairs with hanging arrangements of hydrangeas as each seat was met with a woven fan wedding favor. Tall arrangements of the same florals also accented the altar space. “I wanted to capitalize on the natural elements built right into our setting,” Heather says. “The pier and the sea had the perfect colors of neutrals and blues, so I wanted to complement them.” She walked into the ceremony in a stunning ivory wedding dress covered with intricate beading and a sweet bateau illusion neckline as Scott waited for her in a navy suit and matching tie. Their friend presided over the ceremony. Heather and Scott completed a unity-candle tradition accented with seashells before all moved to the venue’s pier for a tented reception. Guests enjoyed a beautiful view of the bay as they took their seats in gold chiavari chairs and picked from a selection of drinks at the open bar. “One of our mottos for the evening 'Save water, drink champagne,’ ” Heather says. Another elegant detail was the centerpieces. Handpicked by Heather and her parents, each table was set with a gold, nautical lantern and surrounded by various seashells to incorporate the local beach. After dinner, all were treated to Key lime tartlets, cupcakes and dancing to Visualize Entertainment's DJ. AbbyHartPhoto captured every detail, below. Heather shares a tip: “Ask lots of questions. Vendors and planners have a wealth of knowledge, but they need to know the couples's aspirations and ideas.”

Navy and Gold Invitations With Seashells
Just Save The Date, Heather and Scott’s planner, decorated the pier with just the right accents for the ceremony. Rows of white folding chairs were met with hanging arrangements of white hydrangeas as two large neutral umbrellas marked the altar. Their white aisle runner also led the way to two white columns topped with more hydrangeas.
Heather's two sisters served as her bridesmaids and wore their own chosen metallic dresses for the ceremony. "I wanted them to be comfortable and complement me,” Heather says. Each woman finished her look with an arrangement of white hydrangeas and a classic updo hairstyle.
White Hydrangea Aisle Decor and Fans
Heather and Scott gave their guests a few treats during the outdoor reception. All were served lemonade and iced tea as woven fans were placed on each white folding chair. For a fun twist, gold bicycle-shaped bottle openers were tied to each fan as the guests' wedding favors.
The couple's friend presided over their ceremony as Heather and Scott took part in a unity-candle tradition. To incorporate a few beach-inspired elements, each candle was placed atop a bed of seashells in a cylinder vase.
Heather paired her ivory beaded wedding dress with a few fun accents. She carried an all-white, classic bouquet of calla lilies down the aisle and matched her bridesmaids with an updo hairstyle. To finish the look with a casual touch, she also wore a pair of gold sandals.
“We were thrilled when we found the pier at Ocean Key," Heather says. "It combined our wish for an outdoor ceremony and reception as well as Scott’s hope of minimizing sand in his dress shoes.” After the couple exchanged vows, all were encouraged to take in the waterfront view on a series of woven lounge furniture or within the tented reception.
For a nautical touch, Heather and her parents handpicked gold lanterns for the couple's centerpieces. Each was filled with white candles and surrounded by seashells to go with the waterfront setting at Ocean Key Resort and Spa in Key West, Florida.
Tented Reception With Gold Chiavari Chairs
When the couple reached their reception, the flower girl and ring bearer were ready to dance. Heather's niece twirled in an ivory A-line dress with fun gold sequins, as Heather's nephew turned with her in a white shirt and neutral pants.
Scott matched the couple's wedding color and wore a full navy suit with a matching navy tie for the outdoor celebration. During the ceremony, his groomsmen wore navy pants, white shirts and navy ties.
