A Simple Wedding at Webster House in Kansas City, Missouri

Proof. A wedding doesn’t have to be over the top to be beautiful, and Teresa Spoon (30 and a general manager) and Adam Ellis’ (39 and a firefighter) wedding is a perfect example. The couple filled their day with simple but elegant details that complemented their personalities. Loving the idea of showing multiple sides of themselves, they chose Resurrection Downtown, a church that didn’t look like a church, for their ceremony before having their reception at the historic Webster House. “We loved the juxtaposition of the modern and industrial church with the vintage and classic Webster House,” Teresa says. Instead of a traditional evening wedding with dinner to follow, the couple got married in the morning and had a luncheon instead. In order to have their wedding be uniquely them in every way, the couple made a lot of the details themselves, including all the floral arrangements. They ordered calla lilies in bulk and arranged them into the bouquets and round centerpieces. The couple used a dark pink and silver palette for their day, and JSi Photography beautifully captured all the details. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, the couple enjoyed a cherry pie and shared little cherry pie tarts with the guests. “We didn't want people to look back on the wedding celebration and judge it based on how good a DJ was or how many people were up and dancing,” Teresa says. “We wanted people to talk and laugh and have a great time being with everyone.”
