A Ski-Themed Winter Wedding at the Mountain Top Inn and Resort in Chittenden, Vermont

Nikia Trinward (30 and a works in clinical affairs) and Kyle Trinward (31 and a sales manager) planned a rustic, wintry affair that paid tribute to their love of skiing for their wedding in Chittenden, VT. The pair met during a ski trip to Vail, Col., so hosting their mid-March celebration at the Mountain Top Inn and Resort seemed like an obvious choice.

The couple’s love for the snow and the winter season were incorporated into every detail throughout the day, from the outdoor ceremony overlooking the mountains to the ski mountain-themed table names and Kyle’s miniature skis boutonniere.

To keep guests cozy during the mountainside ceremony, Nikia and Kyle provided their friends and families with warm fleece blankets, hand warmers and a hot chocolate bar. Brightly lit lanterns lined the aisle, bringing an element of romance and ambiance to the outdoor space, while a birch wedding arch and wintry accents played up the beauty of the snow-kissed natural setting. Big snow flakes fell as the couple exchanged vows, and after saying their “I do’s,” Nikia and Kyle made a grand exit in a horse-drawn sleigh.

A palette of blush, gold and cream brought an air of romance and elegance to the mountaintop reception space, with details like tree slices, vintage-inspired lanterns, an antique ski guest book and ski map escort cards injecting the decor with playful, rustic flair. Flickering candlelight played off gilded accents, like hand-painted milk bottle vases and chargers, bringing a subtle note of glamour to the decor. “We worked hard to incorporate so many unique things,” says Nikia, “but the mountains and outdoors were the most important things to us.”

A tip for the taking from Nikia: “Stop and enjoy the view! We snuck away mid-reception and found a spot on the 2nd floor where we could overlook the event, and remarked at the smiles on all of our most important friends and family members’ faces.”
