A Super-Romantic Wedding at St. Thomas Preservation Hall in Wilmington, North Carolina

Talk about romantic! Using plenty of texture and a soft, early-spring palette, Diana Wu (33 and a senior analytical chemist at Hospira) and Robert Jenkins (25 and a instrumentation system specialist at Hospira) had an elegant fete that was entirely inspired by Diana’s stunning Oscar de la Renta dress. The fashionable bride knew she wanted her look to be a little unexpected, but still classically beautiful, and the pale blue gown with flowing organza ruffles and a white lace overlay totally filled the bill. “When I wore it after the final fitting, I felt like me, how I wanted to feel in a wedding gown,” Diana says. “Sadly, Oscar de la Renta passed away a few months before our wedding. It was truly an honor to wear his gown.” Everything from the gorgeous stationery to the wedding cake took on the same attributes for a flawlessly consistent look. A month after Diana and Robert got engaged, they saw a soiree at St. Thomas Preservation Hall in Wilmington, North Carolina, planned by dynamic duo wedding planners Jeff and Hannah from Design Perfection. At that moment, Diana and Robert knew two things: who was going to plan their wedding and where they were going to have it. One of our favorite details was how Diana and Robert incorporated some of her heritage into the traditions, such as the roof tile wrapped in red cloth, which they broke during the ceremony. “Red means good luck, happiness and good fortune in Chinese culture,” she says. See all our favorite details from this stunningly romantic wedding, beautifully captured by Theo Milo Photography, below.

The romantic invitations were inspired by Diana’s gorgeous Oscar de la Renta pale blue, white lace dress. The stationery took on the same palette and the soft wave texture to bring all the details together flawlessly. Diana and Robert’s talented wedding planners from Design Perfection created the suite.
Robert and the groomsmen wore lavender lisianthus, blue delphinium and dusty miller boutonnieres on their lapels. Jeff from Design Perfection proposed many of the flowers Diana and Robert used to ensure all the details flawlessly matched one another and the early-spring palette.
Since Robert likes surprises and details, Diana looked for a dress that was a little unexpected but still classically beautiful. She found exactly what she was looking for: a stunning Oscar de la Renta gown. She loved the pale blue train and ruffles that moved like ocean waves when she walked, not to mention the elegant lace overlay. “When I wore it after the final fitting, I felt like me, how I wanted to feel in a wedding gown,” she says.

Diana’s bridesmaids all wore the same lilac dress from Women Land on Etsy. Since each woman had a different body type and personal style, Diana chose an infinity dress so they could personalize.
Vintage Silver-Framed Mirror Wedding Ceremony Program
While Diana and Robert were planning their wedding, they saw an event planned by Jeff from Design Perfection at St. Thomas Preservation Hall in Wilmington, North Carolina. The moment they saw it, they knew two things: They wanted the dynamic duo of Jeff and Hannah to plan their wedding, and their event would be at the old Catholic church.

Diana and Robert’s favorite decoration at the ceremony was their giant hydrangea wall. It faded from white in the center to light blue and lavender around the outside, which perfectly fit the romantic palette.
Three-Piece Gray Suit With Lavender Tie Groom's Attire
Diana got her amazing taste in fashion from her mother, who studied fashion design. So the bride knew she wanted a showstopping look for her wedding, and donned an Oscar de la Renta gown that’s to die for. We love the pale blue detailing under the white overlay—amazing!

For desert, Diana and Robert enjoyed a three-tier pale blue ombre cake. The white lace fondant overlay matched Diana’s Oscar de la Renta gown. The top layer was a carrot cake with cream cheese, the middle tier was an amaretto cake with amaretto custard, and the bottom was an almond cake with chocolate. “We couldn’t just pick one flavor, so we chose our favorites from the tasting,” Diana says. “We love almond though!”

Vintage-Inspired Fur Stole Grand Exit Bridal Accessory
Diana and Robert’s grand exit was in a 1959 Rolls-Royce Silver Phantom. They loved the light silver color with the goldish sheen that was the perfect mix of classy and vintage. “Jeff said it would look good with the dress,” Diana says. “It was the first time I rode in a car like that. Very fun!”
