A Timeless Southern Wedding at Lowndes Grove Plantation in Charleston, South Carolina

Mary Henckels (26 and a baker) and Zachary Oster (28 and a physical therapist) said “I do” during a romantic garden wedding at Lowndes Grove Plantation along the Ashley River in Charleston, South Carolina. “We chose Lowndes Grove Plantation as our location for its Southern charm and breathtaking views of the Ashley River,” Mary says. “With many of our guests traveling to Charleston for our wedding, we wanted to give them a true Southern experience. Where better than on a plantation in the middle of Charleston?” A color scheme of green, gray and blush brought their early-spring wedding to life. “Our color scheme was a nod to our alma mater, Loyola University Maryland, where we met on the swim team,” Mary says. They also honored the Loyola mascot with the Greyhound, a signature cocktail, and “we also had greyhound statues at the front given to us from my parents, as well as greyhound cookie jars at the bars,” Mary says. Mary, a professional baker, made all the cookies for their nuptials. One week before their wedding, she "stayed in my kitchen and baked cookies nonstop,” she says. “I wanted to personally make something for each of our guests, and creating a cookie and candy bar seemed like the best way. Guests filled takeout boxes with sweets for the drive back to the hotel. They were a hit!” —Marissa Hermanson
