A Pink and Peach Beach Wedding at Congress Hall in Cape May, New Jersey

Book designers Erin Fitzsimmons (32) and Ray Shappell (34) looked to their venue for design inspiration. “Congress Hall was sophisticated and classy, yet quirky and fun,” Erin says, who added subtle seaside elements, including white coral and sea horses, to décor.

Their goal was to find an oceanside location close enough to travel to but far enough away that guests would opt to stay for the entire weekend. "Congress Hall feels like a romantic, enchanting resort from the moment you walk onto the grounds,” Erin says. “There’s definitely magic in the air.”
As book designers, creating the stationery was especially exciting for this pair. “We blended our individual styles into something that felt like us,” Erin says. Designed to mimic a book jacket, the invitation included hand-lettered lyrics from their first dance song, Bob Marley’s “Is This Love” (It played at the restaurant on Erin and Ray’s first date.).

To incorporate actual books in their reception, they used large, gilded tomes as centerpieces made from collected old encyclopedias and book donations from the groom’s mother’s school library, which they painted.
Fashion-wise, Ray customized his navy three-piece suit with an embroidered wedding date. The couple made their own cake topper by spray-painting two seahorse figurines gold.
