A Traditional Wedding at Fairfax at Embassy Row in Washington, DC

Nicki Alam (32 and an executive office manager) and Daniel Sullivan (34 and a human-rights advocate) wanted a sophisticated wedding with a bold color palette. They chose a scheme of bright red accented by ivory and champagne for their Washington, DC, event. Nicki and Daniel were married in a traditional Catholic ceremony at St. Matthew's Cathedral. Nicki's wedding dress was inspired by the church. "The church is very opulent, so I wanted a dress that complemented that. I wore a fit-and-flare style lace wedding dress with tiny crystal embellishments." She carried a bouquet of cascading red and white roses. Her bridesmaids wore knee-length dresses in red and instead of carrying bouquets, they wore red zinnia corsages. The reception, which took place at the Fairfax at Embassy Row, was also decorated with bold red flowers. As a nod to Nicki's Mexican heritage, she and Daniel's entrance song was "La Bamba." They also honored her Pakistani heritage by dancing the bhangra at their reception. "I wanted to incorporate both of my cultures into the wedding," Nicki says. She advises, "It's important to prioritize what matters most to you as a couple before you start planning, so you know what to focus on during the process."
