A Traditional Wedding at Holiday Inn Conference Centre Edmonton South in Edmonton, Alberta

Julie Sackey (27 and a music teacher) and Kevin Forbes (27 and an account executive) turned their wedding at the Holiday Inn Conference Centre Edmonton South in Edmonton, Alberta, into a sweet tribute to both heritages. We’re talking tartan handkerchiefs, West African drummers and traditional dancers. Daphne Chen Photography captured every moment as Kevin and his groomsmen stepped into the church ceremony in dapper black-and-white tuxedos. To honor Kevin's family lineage and those who had died, they all wore his Forbes family tartan as a pocket square. The couple acknowledged Julie’s family more during their reception, starting with their standout entrance. Trinidadian dancers performed and got the party going as Julie and Kevin came in through a human archway. After dinner, the Waijjo drummers got everyone back on their feet for a nonstop dance party. What made the day even sweeter is that Julie and Kevin housed the entire event in their hometown. “Our wedding took place in Edmonton, where we both grew up, met and fell in love,” Julie says. “It's important to remember where you came from and what will go into building your lives as a family.”
