A Vibrant Backyard Wedding at a Private Residence in South Newfane, Vermont

Olivia Cerf (28 and a wellness consultant) and Ben Butterworth (28 and an environmental consultant) planned a vibrant backyard bash for their midsummer wedding in South Newfane, Vermont. Inspired by the natural beauty of the Vermont countryside, with its brilliant wildflowers and rolling hills, the couple filled the alfresco affair with fresh blooms, whimsical organic touches and homey country details. The festivities got under way with a Unitarian ceremony focused on friends, family and nature. Olivia and Ben exchanged vows under a handcrafted birch arch draped in curly willow and bundles of colorful florals, a fanciful detail that set the tone for the evening. Taking advantage of the weather, the newlyweds and their guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the lawn, where they took advantage of the lush scenery and sipped on signature drinks, such as the Greyhound. The reception took place under a sprawling tent, where guests were made to feel as if they had been transported to a scene from "A Midsummer Night’s Dream." Boughs of curly willow and greenery hung overhead, while verdant arrangements of orange, pink, yellow and purple flowers filled the tent with brilliant colors. Wooden farm tables topped with natural linens and French country chairs established a warm, welcoming atmosphere. After dinner, the band Groovin’ You took the stage and brought down the house with their lively set list. “They were incredibly professional, polished, fun, silly, friendly and supportive,” Olivia says. —Libby MacCarthy
