Rustic doesn't have to mean dark and masculine. Just ask Lauren Wilson (31 and a social media and public relations manager for Nautica) and Jonathan Policke (30 and an mechanical engineer)—the couple incorporated a bright, cheery color palette of yellow and red into their rustic aesthetic, giving their woodsy wedding a serious breath of fresh air. The Garrison provided the perfect backdrop for Lauren and Jonathan's laid-back nuptials and came with plenty of built-in decor, including a one-of-a-kind pergola made from salvaged branches. And lucky for us, Jessica Oh Photography got it all on film. "The Hudson Valley is beautiful in the fall: The foliage is so spectacular, we knew it would be the perfect spot for our September wedding," Lauren says. "And the views at The Garrison are just so incredible." Lauren says it was their long (two-year engagement) that enabled them to pull it all off without a planner. "Long engagements are the best. You can really take the time to plan, save for and create your perfect wedding. Do a little bit of planning each week, so the workload doesn't get overwhelming -- especially if you don't have a planner and are organizing it on your own." When the big day finally arrived, they both took time to enjoy the moment. "It's important to take a second to look around at all the people who are there celebrating with you," Lauren says. "It is really humbling."

Classic Custom Wedding Bands
A monogram designed to resemble Lauren and Jonathan's initials carved into a tree was used throughout the day's stationery. It even made an appearance on the wedding cake.
I work in fashion, so a dress with a unique design and incredible craftsmanship was really important to me. I wanted something chic, vintage inspired and with a hint of boho," explains Lauren. "I tried on so many dresses, but when I saw the Claire Pettibone Chantilly dress, I knew it was the one. The Chantilly lace back detail, beading and neckline was really what captured my attention. You can tell the amount of work and artistry that went into designing it."
Wanting a bright, colorful bouquet, Lauren carried a hand-tied, natural bunch of yellow mini callas, yellow cymbidium orchids, green hydrangeas, hot pink and yellow roses, snapdragons, yellow craspedia and yellow ranunculus.
Low Twisted Bridal Updo
"The dress was such a showstopper, I felt like I really didn’t need a veil or heavy accessories," Lauren says. Instead, she finished her look with matching earrings and a bracelet from Anthropologie.
Wispy green and yellow seasonal flowers were intertwined in the branches of The Garrison's wedding arch to enhance the rustic look.

"We were looking for a unique space that felt open and airy and had something special about it -- not to mention that the views at The Garrison were so incredible," Lauren says of their venue.
Lauren's father cut slabs out of hundreds of wooden branches from their backyard to make coasters for the gold mercury glass votives to sit on as part of the tablescapes at the reception.

Lauren and Jonathan had their first dance to "Wake Up" by Coheed and Cambria. "This is one of our favorite bands and the lyrics really describe how we feel about each other," Lauren says.
