Along Shem Creek, Taylor Birmingham (30 and a mortgage loan officer) and Brent Grems (32 and an asset manager) celebrated their spring nuptials surrounded by friends and family at Cottage on the Creek in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. “We decided on a destination wedding because we had friends and family traveling from all over the country,” Taylor says. “We wanted to make sure people came not only for the wedding but also to get away from everything they’re dealing with day in and day out." Afternoon showers threatened their outdoor setup, but by the time the ceremony rolled around, the sun shined bright. The couple outfitted their wedding in a palette of subtle hues like champagne, blush, sage and apricot with pops of deep reds. They said “I do” on a tented dock overlooking the creek, then moved inside for dinner and dancing. The newlyweds made their grand entrance to “Rocky Top,” the fight song for the University of Tennessee (their alma mater), then danced as husband and wife to Norah Jones’s “Turn Me On.” “Darby, the DJ with Epic Charleston, was phenomenal,” Taylor says. “I danced all night, and Brent really hung in there with me, even though he was in his boot from tearing his Achilles tendon eight weeks earlier.” After dancing the night away, the newlyweds exited with a romantic sparkler send-off. —Marissa Hermanson

Indigo rehearsal dinner invites set the tone for a laid-back feast at a Charleston, South Carolina, brewery and smokehouse.
Taylor gave her bridesmaids pouches that were personalized with their monogram.
Bridesmaids donned two-tone hi-lo dresses with ivory tops and peach skirts. “Then throw in the charm of downtown Charleston, where we did photos with the girls before the ceremony, and the beauty of Shem Creek and the surrounding dock areas,” Taylor says.
Taylor carried a vibrant bouquet of camellias and peonies with accents of merlot-colored amaranthus and dusty miller greenery.
Taylor and Brent’s tented ceremony at Cottage on the Creek in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, was draped in beautiful fabric and decorated with elegant chandeliers and urns filled with flowers and twigs.
After they were pronounced husband and wife, the newlyweds walked up the aisle to Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours).”
Guests enjoyed cocktail hour overlooking Shem Creek while Taylor and Brent snuck away for portraits on the other side of the creek.
“Luckily, the inside of the venue didn’t need a lot of decor,” Taylor says. “I loved the exposed wooden beams that hung over the dance floor and the floor-to-ceiling windows that allowed us to watch the sunset.”
A three-tier shaved naked cake was simply topped in pink blooms.
After dancing the night away, Taylor and Brent made their grand escape through a tunnel of sparklers lit by family and friends.
