A Vintage Holiday Wedding at the Cairnwood Estate in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania
Swapping traditional red and green for romantic pastel pinks, blues, greens and golds, Kelly Flegal (25 and a display artist) and Rob Zangrillo (24 and a graphic designer and illustrator) turned their Christmas wedding into a handcrafted, vintage affair.
Their engagement took place at a botanical garden in New Jersey. “Immediately following our proposal, we witnessed a wedding and sipped champagne from afar and watched, knowing that it soon would be us,” Kelly said. Then the planning began in earnest.
For their day at the altar, the couple chose the Cairnwood Estate for the reception, having admired its classical Roman and Greek architecture and French Renaissance influences. The late-18th-century country house, with era-appropriate furnishings, was outfitted for the season with garlands and a Christmas tree; the couple added their touch with vintage ornaments, white poinsettias and handmade decorations like ribbon-tied jingle bells, which the guests used to “ring in” the marriage. The hand-designed and DIY details stayed true to the couple’s creative roots: They met at Temple University's Tyler School of Art. —Allie Volpe
