A Vintage-Inspired Mountainside Wedding at Crest Pavilion in Asheville North Carolina

Kristen Speidel (31 and a software developer) started talking to Marc Spancake (32 and a software developer) over a bottle of cider in a dusky vintage bar. After six months of conjuring up a variety of proposal schemes ranging from historical lighthouses to flash mobs, Marc proposed to Kristen at Cheekwood Gardens on Bastille Day. The ceremony was held at the North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville, NC, with a reception following at the Crest Pavilion. "We chose these locations because we are both lovers of nature, which played a huge part in our overall wedding theme," says Kristen. "Crest Pavilion's mountainous backdrop—which was a huge hit among guests during the epic sunset—was in itself a rare find!" Kristen wore a lace Monique Lhuillier sheath wedding dress with a keyhole back and Twigs & Honey custom-made her headpiece utilizing leftover lace. Drawing inspiration from the 1920s, Kirsten and Marc incorporated a burgundy and cream color palette with vintage accents throughout their pavilion reception. Submerged calla lilies and curly willow branches decorated the burgundy and cream tablescapes and a mentalist performed a special dinner show. "Many of our guests were traveling long distances so we did our best to provide them with a wealth of information about the Asheville area," says Kristen. "We created welcome bags, custom maps and gave recommendations for our local favorites!"

"The best reflection of our relationship was the ceremony, which we wrote together with the help of our comedic great friend, Vinny Valdivia," says Kristen. "We did our best to steer clear of the traditional repeat-after-me vows and even included a reading from Plato's Symposium."
