Ashley Hall (23 and an NICU nurse) and Sean Smithgall (26 and a pharmacist) planned an intimate garden wedding with an autumnal twist at CJ’s Off the Square in Franklin, Tenn. Instead of the expected fall color palette of red, orange and yellow hues, Ashley and Sean filled the cozy garden outdoor space with shades of purple, lavender, peach, pink and classic white hues to set an elegant, feminine tone. It was the addition of gold and white pumpkins along the aisles and in the centerpieces that gave the decor a decidedly autumnal feel.

The day began with a ceremony in CJ’s lush private garden. A string trio set a romantic tone for the affair and a whimsical arrangement of curly willow, garden roses, stock and hydrangeas in soft purple and pink hues framing the quaint white gazebo where the couple exchanged vows played up the beautiful natural setting. The aisle decor fused romantic and fall-inspired styles with pastel rose petals running the length of the aisle and vintage-inspired lanterns and pumpkins placed at the end of each row.

After saying “I do,” Ashley and Sean invited their families and friends to join them in the open-air pavilion for dinner and dancing. The couple carried the cheerful purple and peach color palette over to the reception through bright table linens, sprigs of fresh lavender and unique arrangements of full garden blooms displayed in crystal chalices. Details like gilded pumpkin place cards and branch-like structures boasting floating glass orbs tied in the autumnal theme, while adding a note of whimsy to the decor. The newlyweds went for a rustic chic appeal when it came to their sweetheart table, styling a wooden farm table with a lace table runner, twinkling mercury glass, silvery mercury glass and French country chairs. “We had bistro lights hanging in the pavilion that were gorgeous and lots of candles for a romantic feel,” says Ashley. Guests nibbled on tasty bites like Thanksgiving turkey sliders and mini twice-baked potatoes and enjoyed peach sangria and whiskey sour signature cocktails during cocktail hour. Premier DJs of Nashville took over after dinner and kept the dance floor packed until the wee hours.

To play up the wedding’s subtle rustic undertones, the couple incorporated details like handcrafted chalkboard chair signs, wooden farm tables, pumpkins and silvery branches throughout the reception decor.
Ashley and Sean’s sweetheart table struck the perfect balance of rustic and glam. A lace table runner added a note of vintage appeal to the tablescape, while bright purple blooms, painted pumpkins and mercury glass accents infused the tabletop decor with subtle glitz and autumnal flair.
While crystal chalices overflowing with cheerful garden florals brought a pop of bright color and an air of femininity to the centerpieces, branch-like structures decked out with votive candles in floating glass orbs introduced an element of playfulness to the tabletops.
To bring a dash of autumnal flair to the lush garden at CJ’s Off the Square, Ashley and Sean lined the aisles with gold and white painted pumpkins.
The celebrations kicked off with an intimate ceremony in the garden at CJ’s Off the Square. To play up the natural beauty of the setting, the couple kept the decor a minimum, choosing but a few understated touches to tie in their theme. Lanterns and painted pumpkins lined the aisle, while a whimsical curly willow garland framed the quaint gazebo.
Ashley’s bridal bouquet perfectly captured the feel of the wedding’s romantic, garden setting. The elegant, cascading bouquet featured garden roses in soft pink hues, surrounded by a halo of stock and lavender in varying shades of purple, which together created plenty of textured, dramatic appeal.
Playing off Ashley’s bridal bouquet, Enchanted Florist Nashville created bright, romantic arrangements with a garden-inspired twist for the bridesmaids. The full pink and purple garden roses and stock tied into the wedding’s color scheme seamlessly and popped against the girls’ sophisticated navy chiffon gowns.
Ashley’s Maggie Sottero gown perfectly captured the whimsical feel of the wedding’s garden locale. The mermaid-style dress featured draped detailing along the bodice, leading to a full skirt with textured rosette detailing. She added a lavender ribbon to highlight her waist and tie the look into the day’s romantic purple and pink color palette.
Ashley and Sean created vignettes throughout the CJ’s open-air pavilion where guests could kick back while enjoying signature cocktails like peach sangria and whiskey sours. Vintage furnishings in a warm off-white hue felt undeniably elegant, while details like gilded bottles and pillar candles delivered undeniable wow-factor and glamour.
The ceremony’s standout feature was the curly willow garland used to frame the garden’s small white gazebo where the couple exchanged vows. Fancifully arranged willow vines dripped in full pink garden roses and purple stock, giving the decor a dramatic, yet utterly romantic vibe.
Antique touches exuding old world charm, like a vintage suitcase used as a card box, were a key element in bringing Ashley and Sean’s romantic vision to life.
For Ashley and Sean, personalizing their ceremony was a must. The pair wrote their own vows, expressing their commitment to one another in their own meaningful way, and lit a unity candle with their mothers to symbolize the coming together of their two families.
