Jannie Chung (28 and a contracts and reversion editor) and Ivan Wu (27 and a pricing analyst) didn't have a stated theme for their early-October wedding, but all the day’s details made for a truly one-of-a-kind rustic-chic affair. “We didn’t have a theme because I felt it would limit us, and knowing myself, I probably wouldn’t have been able to stick to one,” Jannie says. MyMoon in Brooklyn, New York, a 19th-century former boiler room, set the tone for the entire affair, the brick walls, high ceilings and quaint garden offering an intimate, romantic and quirky backdrop for the celebration. DIY projects were a huge part of the day, with Jannie fusing various design ideas she gathered for months into unique details like feather escort cards, ribbon aisle markers, Mod Podge table numbers and an antique drawer card box. Victoria Ahn of Designs by Ahn worked with the couple to bring the historic venue to life, creating dozens of pastel bud-vase arrangements, as well as breathtaking bouquets and a wedding arch that tied in seamlessly with the garden-inspired feel of MyMoon’s outdoor space. “It was a beautiful space on its own; the hanging jars, twinkle lights, and the small details really set the ambiance,” Jannie says. Self-proclaimed foodies, Jannie and Ivan knew that special attention should be given to the menu. With the help of MyMoon, the couple dreamed up an unforgettable meal abounding with delectable dishes and global flavors. After indulging, the couple and their guests hit the dance floor, pausing only to strike a pose at the photo booth. “The low-key and intimate setting really reflects how we are as a couple,” Jannie says. "Good food and good company are what we both really enjoy, and we had all that."

Peonies are Jannie’s favorite flower, but with a wedding date set for early October, the lush blooms weren’t in season. “I was disappointed, but Victoria Ahn of Designs by Ahn whipped up a small sample of alternative flowers and it looked wonderful,” Jannie says. “If she could pull together such a beautiful, cohesive piece with leftover flowers, I was going to trust her to do the flowers for my wedding.” The final bouquet was the perfect blend of whimsy and romance, filled with dahlias, garden roses, ranunculus, tube roses and dusty miller in soft, cream and blush hues.
A dress that allowed her bridesmaids to let loose and dance was a requirement for Jannie when she started her search for bridesmaid dresses. A pale mint chiffon number by Donna Morgan was the perfect fit. “I chose a chiffon dress because they’re light, allowing more freedom in movement, and most important, you can eat as much as you want without having to worry about your belly showing, something all girls who love food worry about,” Jannie says.
Jannie donned three dresses, for different parts of the wedding. For the ceremony, she went for timeless elegance, wearing an off-the-shoulder Oleg Cassini gown with fit-and-flare silhouette, sweep train and seven layers of delicate lace. “I’m very indecisive, so I went dress shopping with a very open mind,” Jannie says. “I didn’t have a ‘this is the dress’ moment, but all it took was the look on my mother’s face to know which dress I was wearing.”
Jannie and Ivan took full advantage of the beautiful fall weather and hosted their ceremony outdoors on MyMoon’s wooden deck lounge. Victoria Ahn of Designs by Ahn constructed a wooden wedding arch for the affair, which she draped with airy ivory fabric and a eucalyptus garland, tying in seamlessly with the space’s dramatic ivy-covered wall.
Instead of lining the aisle with flowers, Jannie tied together mint, gray and white lace ribbons and wrapped them on the corners of the chairs on the end of each row. “It was a beautiful space on its own; the hanging jars, twinkle lights and small details set the ambiance,” Jannie says.

A week before the wedding, Jannie decided to find matching mint socks for all of the groomsmen to wear with their gray Black by Vera Wang suits. The task proved to be more difficult than she had  imagined. “I think back on it now and laugh at the absurd amount of shops we went to just to make this minuscule part of my wedding come together,” Jannie says.
When Jannie and Ivan stepped inside MyMoon in Brooklyn, New York, the venue’s brick walls, high ceilings and salvaged-steel accents instantly blew them away. The 19th-century boiler room had an intimate, romantic ambiance and plenty of old-world charm, while the quaint outdoor space felt miles away from the bustle of the city.
Both avid readers, Jannie thought literary centerpieces would be the perfect way to reflect the couple’s love of literature, while also dressing up the reception tables with a design element that complemented MyMoon’s rustic interior. Stacks of books and bud vases filled with peach and pink blooms were arranged along the lengths of each table. “Toward the end of the night, I encouraged people to take whatever they wanted home, not thinking anyone would be interested in the books,” Jannie says. “To my surprise they were walking out with stacks. They were even going through the boxes of extra books I brought in case we didn’t have enough.”

Jannie, a self-proclaimed DIY fanatic, took on several projects to give the wedding a touch of personal flair. Looking through hundreds of photos, she identified a number of ideas she liked and meshed them together to create one-of-a-kind designs. For the escort cards, she printed the names of each guest of scrapbook paper, wrapped them around feathers and displayed them in wicker baskets filled with moss.

Before the couple and their guests hit the dance floor, Jannie and Ivan indulged their family and friends in an unforgettable meal. From appetizers with global flavor—including a bubble-tea station—to four mouthwatering main-course options like monkfish with salsa verde or skirt steak with chimichurri sauce, the couple went all out when it came to the food. “We’re huge foodies, so we particularly enjoyed the tasting,” Jannie says. “We had eaten there previously and thoroughly enjoyed the food, so we weren’t surprised when we continued to stuff our faces even while crying that we were too full.”
