A Whimsical Spring Wedding at The Brambleton Golf Course in Ashburn, Virginia

Physicians Ismaela Teferi and Simon Atena wrote their wedding as a love letter to their Ethiopian heritage—but with a few modern Western twists. The couple, who met during their time in residency, filled their wedding with nods to their culture, starting with the ceremony. “Our ceremony was spoken almost entirely in our Ethiopian dialect,” Ismaela says. At the reception, the newlyweds paired traditional Ethiopian dishes with romantic pink décor and a wispy, artistic cake for dessert. An extra-large circular arch covered in greenery and roses framed the couple’s spot, to which they added orchids, roses and peonies.
