A Whimsical Tented Wedding at a Private Farm in Smithfield, Kentucky
Cassie Doumas (25 and a photographer) was hired to take over Chris Scott's (29 and a scuba instructor) old position at an independent music store. He stopped by on her first night and the pair immediately began flirting. The pair immediately began dating and Chris proposed on a sailboat in the Bahamas. "We were standing alone on the bow, on our way to a little island, when Chris said to me 'We should get married,'" says Cassie. "I was a little taken aback and had to ask if he was joking." Once they returned from their tropical getaway, Cassie and Chris began planning their colorful wedding at Cassie's childhood farm in Kentucky. Rolling hills served as a backdrop for the outdoor ceremony followed by a colorful tented reception. "We wanted an 'English romantic meets Southern charm theme' inspired by our love of England and our Kentucky roots," says Cassie. "We wanted the event to have a fun vibe without being too casual and also wanted to be surrounded by our favorite colors." In keeping with their whimsical aesthetic, Cassie and Chris worked with a vibrant color palette of purple, mint, pink and blue for their relaxed celebration. Although violets are the bride's favorite flower from childhood, they didn't end up in her arrangements but instead she served Parma Violet signature cocktails complete with a fresh bloom in every glass. Cheerful peony and ranunculus arrangements popped within the white tented affair along with bunting (handmade in England), string lights, bourbon barrels, vintage inspired details and greenery. Silhouettes were a cohesive theme throughout the relaxed wedding and were incorporated through the invitations, programs, chair signs and custom cake toppers. "Our music selection reflected us the most as a couple—we met at a record store, bonded over music for years and it continues to be an important part of our relationship," says Cassie. "Every bit of music at the wedding and the reception was selected by us because of its meaning personal meaning!"
