A Whimsical, Vintage-Inspired Garden Wedding at Gwyn Careg Inn in Pomfret, Connecticut

From arrangements of summery peach blooms to silvery vintage accents and whimsical hand-lettered signage, Erica Nogueira (29 and an art teacher) and Kenny Richard’s (33 and a software analyst) wedding was the perfect example of a whimsical, romantic affair. The couple found their ceremony venue, the historic Pomfret School Chapel, by chance online and instantly fell for its ivy-covered stone facade and old-world charm. “It looked like it belonged in a fairytale,” Erica says. Surrounded by an intimate gathering of family and friends, they exchanged heartfelt vows against a backdrop of silvery gray stone. A reception followed at the Gywn Careg Inn in Pomfret, Connecticut, with dinner and dancing taking place under an open-air sailcloth tent in the lush Spanish Gardens. To go with the setting, Erica and Kenny decorated the beautiful outdoor space with bunches of fresh pastel blooms designed by Studio 539 Flowers and displayed in antique silver chalices and ink bottles. Fresh sprigs of rosemary added a light fragrance to the tables, details like striped straws with miniature pendant flags, silver bird table-number holders and gold script chair decorations helped bring to life the couple’s whimsical garden theme. As a nod to Kenny’s love of music, the pair made a CD of songs that spoke to them as a couple for guests to take home at the end of the night. “It was important to us to have great music and make sure everyone had fun,” Erica says. DJ Fran Enjem made sure of that, getting guests out on the dance floor with her upbeat mix of dance hits.
