A Whimsical Winter Wedding at the Science Museum of Virginia in Richmond
Sarah Jones (31 and a registered nurse and co-owner of The Proper Petal) and Zach Boyle (37 and a desktop systems administrator) paid homage to their love of science, dinosaurs and Harry Potter in their whimsical “Speakeasy in Space” winter wedding at a science museum. “We loved the vintage, historic elements of the venue and wanted to honor that with elegant details while still paying tribute to our nerdy personalities,” Sarah says. The couple started the day off with a ceremony in front of an elaborate eight-foot-tall floral ring with the science museum’s SR-71 Blackbird spy plane illuminated in the background. Zach jazzed up his classic three-piece suit with a few on-theme accessories, including a velociraptor tie clip and Star Wars socks. In the science museum’s palatial rotunda, a long king’s table was accessorized with cozy armchairs for the bride and groom and with Lucite ghost chairs for friends and family. A cocktail lounge, furnished with vintage-style couches and a copper bar, offered signature sips throughout the night. In true Hogwarts style, the feasting tables were topped with crimson runners and gold dinosaur table marker holders. At the end of the night, guests took home koozies with a playful design: “When I asked Zach what the koozies should look like, he responded with ‘a dinosaur wearing a top hat,’ so that’s exactly what we did,” Sarah says.
